Thank you to the gravel cyclist who came back to help on South Boulder Creek Trail
Sunday afternoon, I was riding my Urban Arrow cargo e-bike very slowly with my two kids on South Boulder Creek Trail, heading toward US 36.
A middle-aged runner in a running vest started recording me and my children. He said he was documenting motorized vehicles on the trail. I stopped to confront him about filming us, and the situation quickly became stressful.
A group of gravel cyclists came through and, understandably, complained that we were blocking the trail. One of you initially assumed the man and I knew each other. I explained that he was confronting me about riding an e-bike.
You rode past. Then you came back.
You helped de-escalate things and helped me get away with my kids. I was pretty shaken. It meant a lot that you noticed something was wrong and took the time to step in.
The trailhead sign clearly states "Bikes & E-Bikes Allowed." We were simply out for a slow family ride on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Being confronted by a stranger who was recording my children was deeply upsetting.
I was also extremely angry and protective of my kids. I'm still baffled that someone would confront a father riding slowly with two young children. And for what, exactly?
If you're reading this: thank you for coming back. You made a difference for our family.
