Tips for an abandoned barn with tons of cat waste.

Long story short - someone up and moved and left about 40 cats locked in a barn. Many were saved, some were lost. After recently being purchased by someone who does cat rescue & TNR, this space will be turning into a cat sanctuary for those who have been indoor cats and those who just want a warm place to stay or a meal to eat.

I am helping them get the spaced cleared out and cleaned, but need some tips and advice to make it pet safe again.

  1. What kind of PPE? I intend to get a 3M P100 respirator, several disposable cover-alls, tall waterproof boots (steel toe needed?), and a few pairs of gloves including cut resistant as a base layer. Any tips for clothing underneath? I'm in MN and its 86F and 60%-70% humidity...
  2. What kind of cleaning products/solutions? I imagine bleach and probably vinegar for specific areas. Any heavy duty or industrial cleaners? The ammonia is strong with this one.
  3. What kind of tools? Any specific items that would make it easier ergonomically? I'm in my 30's with the crunchy body of an 80yo man.
  4. Any general tips & tricks? There will be a small group of us, so hopefully we can get it done in a weekend.

Kitty photo for tax & was one we saved from the barn who is going to a home. We named him Tommy Pickles for the time being.
