Looking for advice for this spoon.

I found this template online and the crank on the bowl of this spoon seems crazy. Do you all think this will look proper once I finish the bowl? I’m resisting the urge to bring the end of the bowl down some but I’m starting to question that.

My first attempt at one of these. Is this a thumb spoon or a pocket spoon?

I used more of the wormy black cherry because I think it’s sick a pretty wood. I know the holes aren’t good for an eating utensil, but I can fill those with epoxy if I decide to use it.

Silver Maple Spoon

The wood for this came from a massive leader we had to have removed from a 225+ year old Silver Maple that is behind our house. The last photo is the tree the wood came from. A friend had the leader milled so we hope to make some nice things from it.

I really like to have my hand as close to the blade as possible and this Mora 164 digs into my index finger horribly. I tried electrical tape and it just got all gummy and gross so I whittled this up and notched it for the blade with a bandsaw.

Being new to this I didn’t realize that going across the middle like this for the bowl was a bad idea, until someone pointed out to me yesterday, so I’m hoping it doesn’t crack. I got some nice pictures in case it does. I love the worm holes but because of them this is just something I would use as a decoration.

I had the bright idea of using a branch that extends from a log as the handle for a ladle. I expected it to be hard where it branches off, but I was not expecting it to be this dense throughout the middle of the log. This is black cherry and is still wet. Should I just keep taking this out a tiny bit at a time with my hook knife as I have been?
