Was just looking through my contacts and realized I have three different people saved as "Ankit Investor."

I have absolutely no idea which one is which. One might be from a mixer in Indiranagar six months ago, the other could be someone I met for five minutes at a wedding. It’s honestly embarrassing. I used to think I had a decent memory for faces and names, but I don't. I’ve realized my phone is basically where relationships go to die because a name and a number mean zero without the "vibe" or the specific thing we actually talked about.

The cognitive load of "networking" is what kills me.

You meet someone great, you exchange numbers, and then what? You’re supposed to go home and spend 20 minutes updating a spreadsheet or a personal CRM? Nobody actually does that. I’m a dev, I’m busy, and I’m usually exhausted after social stuff. So I just... don't do it. Then three months later, one of them texts me and I’m staring at the screen like a deer in headlights trying to figure out if I owe them a demo or if we just talked about trekking in Himachal.

I started obsessing over this "networking amnesia" thing.

I realized the only time I actually have the energy to record context is the 30 seconds right after I walk away from the person. But I’m not going to stand there and type a paragraph on a tiny keyboard while walking to my car.

So I started using voice.

The workflow I’ve been building for myself (and eventually turned into an app, but that’s not the point) is basically: walk away, record 10 seconds of audio, and let AI deal with it.

The AI takes my messy, rambling voice note—"Hey I met this guy at the coffee shop, he's into Rust and mentioned he's looking for a co-founder for a fintech play, follow up next Tuesday"—and it just... cleans it up. It summarizes it and pins it to the top of the contact.

The relief is actually insane.

The other day, one of those "Ankits" called me. Instead of panicking, I just looked at the note pinned to his name. It said we met at the HSR Starbucks and he was looking for a specific API integration. I led with that. The tone of the conversation changed instantly. He felt heard, and I felt like I actually had my life together for once.

The biggest hurdle for me was privacy. I don't want my personal notes about people sitting in some cloud database where it’s being scraped. I ended up moving everything to be 100% on-device AI. No data leaves the phone.

If you're in that 24-40 age range and trying to build a network in a city like Bangalore or SF, the "save contact and pray" method is a recipe for missed opportunities.

Stop trying to remember everything. Use your voice, let the AI summarize the "why," and keep it on your device. It’s the only way I’ve found to keep my head from exploding while trying to maintain a professional network that actually means something.

Anyone else struggle with this? Or do you guys actually have the discipline to type out notes for every person you meet? Because I definitely don't.
