Is it really that bad?

I am supposed to move to Gouverneur, NY in a few months and I’m getting really scared about this decision after reading the comments and posts here about how sad and creepy it is?

I know it’s a very small town but I’ve lived in a small town before and honestly i would rather live in a nice affordable apartment further out than in an overpriced smaller place in a bigger city.

I have dealt with snow before, but I’m not sure if I’m fully prepared to handle how cold it gets up there; but mostly I’m worried about the heating bill.

Is it really so bad? Is there anything good about living in the area? What are the people like? How is the culture?

I already signed my one year lease last month and i just received this email from my property manager. Is it legal for them to raise my rent after the fact like this? This is low income/income based apartments so i don’t know if the laws are different for them. My state is North Carolina. I don’t what to do, I’ve had nothing but problems with this company since they purchased the complex.
