PIDs on disused eastern end of Platform 1 at Flinders?

Does anyone know the story behind the flatscreen PIDs that permanently say ‘no trains departing from this platform’ on the disused eastern end of platform 1 at Flinders St? Was/is there a plan or intention to open the platform in the near future?

Mobile paint stripping or sandblasting ?

So, I had the fantastic idea of stripping our front door back to timber so we could repaint it a more heritage sympathetic colour.

For context, the house is circa 1890 built and the door is original, but it has 130+ years of paint on it. It’s your typical Victorian cricket bat style with intricate detailing.

I’ve hit the “oh f***, what I have done” stage and i’m overwhelmed.

There is so, so much paint, it’s in all the grooves and the plastic tools are gunking up. I’ve gone through a litre of DCM so far and I’ve realised i’m out of my depth, but i’m also too far in to paint over it and forget. At some parts I’m down to bare wood and on others i’m only down to layer 2, but the height difference in those layers is extreme.

What are my options here for services where I can take the door and they can sandblast or strip it? Anyone able to make any recommendations?

Thanks

Reo brand rim lock? - Melbourne, Australia

Hi all

I live in an 1890s Victorian terrace in Melbourne Australia and I’ve been trying to strip back the paint on our original cricket bat entrance door. There is a rim lock on the front door and I’ve been able to reveal the brand name and the USA imprint.

Google seems to indicate this brand is called Reo, Creo or Cryeo, an American brand from the late 19th century.

Does anyone know the actual name or any information about it?

Thanks

Touching on with phone and watch?

I’ve been using Apple Pay to touch on for the last few weeks but today, in fear of my phone possibly dying, I loaded express transit to the same card on my Apple Watch. I tapped on the tram with my watch, and it’s debited the $1 again.

I understand each card has a unique token with Apple Pay, however is the system smart enough to recognise they’re the same ‘card’, just different devices? Or will I be charged two fares?

Tyre puncture repair near Richmond/Abbotsford

Hey all

I’ve got a slow leak on one of my tyres. The tyre itself has plenty of tread left so I’m keen on a repair somewhere local.

Any recommendations on any tyre repair shops in the Richmond/Abbotsford area and how much they charge for puncture repairs?

Thanks

Do all tram myki readers know what zone they’re in at the time you touch on?

Basically what it says in the title.

The reason I ask is I understood the reason were told not to touch on in the free tram zone, if the entire trip is within that zone, is because the tram myki reader doesn’t know where it is and it’ll just charge a fare.

But then in entirely zone 2 tram trips, however rare, you should actually touch off so you’re only charged a zone 2 fare. But that would imply the tram readers do know where they are.

So if that’s true, will I be charged if I touch on at Southern Cross and touch off at Bourke St Mall, for example?

Myki retirement ?

Someone commented the other day with the announcement of tap and go contactless debit/credit payments responding to someone who suggested they’d refuse to pay for their fare if the system didn’t accept legal tender (cash).

Someone else assured them the myki system had no planned phase out and they could continue to use their myki and top it up with cash.

But a few news sites reference a mid 2028 phase out, and so did VAGO in their audit: https://www.audit.vic.gov.au/report/modernising-myki?section=

So, is there any plan for a cash-payable option beyond mid 2028?

Why are the roller doors down this week at the Melb Central / State Library connection?

This week, 2-3 of the 4 roller doors seem to be down at any given time. No rhyme or apparent reason.

How do the ‘door opens on this side’ sensors work?

Going through the metro tunnel and noticed every single station it would initially report the door opening side incorrectly until it just rolled into the station, then it would correct.

How do they work? Is it driver selectable ?
