Suggestions To Avoid Spreading Harmful Rumors

Hello, this is your favorite watch reviewer / moderator of this sub r/RepWatchForum. Over the past year, I have noticed some toxic behaviors here on reddit and wanted to address it now so that we can have an agreed upon set of rules to handle future happenings. The thing I want to address is “misinformation”.

First of all, I’m not talking about malicious rumors. If there is a clear ill-intent behind a comment or a post, I have no problem dealing with in accordance with forum rules (banning that person and erasing the contents). But not all rumors are malicious. Some are just people trying to share what they know, and I get that.

However, when a person truly believes in wrong information, that’s when things get out of hand. After all, it’s not what you don’t know that hurt you, it’s what you think you know. Having spent a year running a sub on reddit, I realize doing due diligence is not really a thing here, but I think one should check the facts, accept the limitations of their sources and state things in a way that would not lead people to misinterpret the situation.

We all have our sources. And when it comes down to the world of replica watches, most, if not all, of our sources are some Chinese dude (or gal). And I understand that it’s human nature to grant more weight to familiar sources than not. However, we all have to accept that our source of information has its limits and that it’s not absolute.

<<What I have witnessed>>

There was a dude who had Chinese wife or something like that. And one day, he wanted to get into the rep watch game. So he asked his wife to do a little research, sent her down to the watch market in Guangzhou or what not. He discovered that the prices she was offered by local sellers were way cheaper than what he found on reddit. Naturally, he made a reddit sub calling all the sellers on reddit “scam” and everybody fools for shopping at their EXPENSIVE online stores.

Of course, this guy was new to the game and had no ability whatsoever to tell if a watch was really from VSF (with right movements and so on) or from a copycat factory. Unfortunately, he went after everybody. Chased down TDs in other forums, and even came after me at one point for one of my reviews. Well, I don’t waste my time checking up on people who are hard to watch so I don’t know what happened to him but I don’t see him being mentioned anywhere anymore.

The thing is, this guy really believed that he was absolutely right (and everyone else was stupid). He really did. There is an old saying in Korea that goes something like “you only see as much as you know”. He knew very little that he saw so little. But he was enough to cause a lot of people minor pain in their butt. Some of you are probably laughing at him now as you are reading this post, but it was just that he was really loud about his convictions, not that he is a special outlier. I see something like this happening all the time.

<<On a small-scale>>

As some of you know, I have been running the biggest online replica watch community in Korea for about a decade now. Much like r/RepWatchForum, I used to write a whole bunch of comparison reviews and people started settling down next to me, making themselves comfortable, reading my reviews, and ordering their watches according to the information they gathered. It was so much fun watching a community form like that, matter of fact, it was so much fun, I moved here on reddit to do the same thing!

Because I have been doing this for quite a bit (not replica watches but running a community), I came to make a lot of friends in the industry. I have direct connections to a dozen major factories (well, usually the same owner owns a few factories so some of the different factory names you know all come from the same place even though I can’t tell you which are own by whom) so although my information is still not perfect, it was dependable enough for me to the first one to break the news about most new movements and releases on reddit.

Even with all the sources I have, I realize that my information still won’t be 100% correct. After all, I’m not Chinese (I’m Korean) and I’m not a seller but a regular hobbyist just enjoying myself. So when I post or comment on things, I try my best to convey that by clearly stating my sources, how I arrived at my conclusion and how much of that he/she should take away. For example, I would say something like “my movement source who first gave me the news about JH free-sprung Rolex 32 caliber told me that Dandong is already developing their official version of Rolex free-sprung calibers but I wouldn’t hold my breath since there is no definite date of the release”.

Recently, I posted a lot of stuff about CNC manufacturers like Prime Mod Studio, Best CNC Factory and etc., I personally believe that this is where the replica watch industry is headed. With heightened risk posed by increased inspection and dwindling sales of Rolex replica watches due to overheated competition, many factories are turning their attention to higher quality and higher margin models like CNC of Patek, AP and VC. And, as usual, I like staying ahead of the game by posting relevant stuff before everyone starts researching them.

Then I was appalled by the some of the comments left on these posts. When I posted stuff about 5711, people were quick to jump on it and say stuff like “your prices are wrong, my dealer says he can get it to me for a lot cheaper”….well, good for you. I deal with people I trust and I was dealing with the factory representatives and their designated dealers who were the first to introduce me to the product and got me the sample so that I can review them against my collection.

More polite and mannered people sent me DMs (instead of posting them as facts) to ask me politely “my dealer says he can get it to me for 000 but I’m not sure if it’s the same product. Would you tell me what you think of it if I send you photos of what he’s offering?” Which I did (I do nice things for nice, likeminded people since that’s what people do) and they all turned out to be builds other than PMS or BCF.

Last week, BCF released 5712 and their factory representative asked me if I could put the word out for them as I did for their 5711. I accepted their request and said I will go ahead and pre-order one for myself since I loved my BCF 5711. So I had the factory send my watch to a friend in China who runs a photo studio and had him send me the watch afterward. This way I can have all the nice photos before I could post my comparison review. I then shared those photos with Korean sellers (like Q from QuickTime) as I always have done so they can promote them in Korea.

So, the photos I posted were of REAL ACTUAL PHOTOS OF MY WATCH (and no, I haven’t received the actual watch yet, it hasn’t even been a week lol) and the information I have shared with the photos were directly from the factory. But sure enough, in the comments of one of these 5712 posts, some wrote “I talked the factory and they don’t produce like these photos no more” to almost every inquiry made by other members. To this, I asked something along the lines of “Why are you saying this to everyone? Who is your source? Why would a factory that just released their new product not produce them anymore? I talked to the factory representatives directly and they don’t know what the heck you are talking about.”

Then this guy proudly posted a capture of a seller named “B***” saying a lot of stuff that he clearly doesn’t know anything about. Poster added “I bought many watches from China through this guy”…so that’s supposed to make your guy the absolute authority on the matter?

There are many, and I mean many Chinese sellers both on reddit and everywhere else, and I’m sure that he built a good relationship with his guy. But him telling the rest of the world what he heard from him as absolute truth and nothing but the truth is just ridiculous. You see only as much as you know, and you, my friend, shouldn’t be this confident or eager about spreading what you think you know.

This got me thinking though. What do I do to with this guy? He’s clearly spreading rumors but he doesn’t mean anything bad by it (at least I don’t think). He just really believes in what he’s been told by his watch guy. But regardless of his intentions, he shouldn’t be spreading uncertain (and wrong) information in a forum. I finally banned him when he decided to abandon his manners and told me to “chill the f*** down” but I think there should be a general guideline for me to handle this kind of thing as a moderator.

<<Suggestion>>

I propose that regardless of one’s intentions, one should be careful when sharing the information received by their “Chinese watch guy” and exercise basic manner of 1) clearly stating the source, 2) taking a careful tone that acknowledges the fact it might be wrong and lastly 3) being open-minded about what others say in response. I think if we stick to these basic rules, we can avoid whole “my almighty Chinese watch guy is right and your nobody Chinese watch guy is wrong” fight. We all have friends. It doesn’t mean they are always right.

From this point on, if I find any posts or comments that don’t follow these basic manners, I will ban and remove the poster and the post (I will be linking this post in the community guidelines post).

For a post so simple, this turned out longer than I expected. Thank you for reading it and for keeping this community healthy and clean.

BCF Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712 with Real Gold Rotor and Free-Sprung Caliber

Hello, this is your favorite moderator / watch reviewer u/tskim24 of r/RepWatchForum. I don’t know about you but I have been waiting for this release. Yes, that’s right, it’s BCF 5712!

To give you a little background, Best CNC Factory (“BCF” for short) is one of the first CNC manufacturers to actually put a factory name on their product. Until now, you had all these shady dealers selling you their best, “better than factory stock version” of these CNC modded reps (which is crazy since the rep market is already pretty shady as it is).

Then factories like Prime Mod Studio (PMS) and BCF started releasing CNC under a uniform name and quality. Prime Mod Studio was really the first one to do it (ACE kind of did it but they were always more of a movement maker) and the best features of PMS was that it was the most affordable of these options.

BCF took it one step further, putting in real gold rotors on top of the CNC build that already included all the latest SW and BCF self-modified parts. They are running a business so the price tag on their products was not cheap but it's still very good considering what they bring to the table (the alternative way of building something like this via modders…is probably much more expensive and, well, a lot more of a hassle).

Although I review many watches, I (obviously) can’t buy everything that I review. Being in a unique position, I often times borrow watches for comparison reviews (usually to compare them against watches that I already have in my collection). I have reviewed basically all 5711 reps ever made from all factories (you might remember some of the posts if you have been following me), and I have in my collection, a fully modded 5711 with all the best custom parts of that generation (which was only about 2 years ago) and a BBF 5711 that I only kept because it had unique old school 5711 dial. And after writing my BCF and DDF 5711 comparison review in the link below, I just had to buy the BCF and I still have no regrets. The thing is beautiful! (I have 3 blue 5711 in my display shelf now 😆.)

After releasing 5711, BCF didn’t waste any time and released 5167A right away (which I have already posted). I do have a fully modded 5167A in my collection but TBH I’m not as crazy about Aquanaut as I am about Nautilus so I will probably return this BCF 5167A to the seller after I write my comparison review. Back to the main topic on hand, BCF 5712!

Of course I have a 5712 in my collection already! In fact, I have all 3 colors 😆 blue one fully modded with all the custom parts you can imagine (and my man Max did his whole thing) and the grey franken with GEN dial (the second GEN 5712 dial I have owned) the whole nine yard. So I was faced with a very difficult choice, I really wanted BCF 5712 but that meant I had to sell the one I already have in my collection. Well, a man’s gotta have what he wants so I already pulled the trigger. I will be writing a comparison review of my 5712 vs BCF 5712 and will probably sell my old 5712 (to help pay for my BCF 5712 🤣).

To make things clear, I got these photos from a friend who runs a studio exclusively for major rep factories. I mostly take my own photos for my comparison posts, but I do have a day job and I’m nowhere close to being this professional in taking photos. With this said, I don’t have a BCF 5712 on my hands yet. I’m judging from these photos (just like you) and the poster given to me by the factory representative. My on-hand comparison review will happen probably around next week when I receive the watch. Well, what are we waiting for? let’s go!

<<Dial>>

As BCF has done with 5711 and 5167, they use SW dial for the most part. But what they try to do differently is to custom order from SW to match a specific GEN production year. With 5167A, I believe they shot for 2011 stamped models. With 5712, they are shooting for 2023 ones. If you have read some of my past 5712 posts, even GEN dial differs significantly depending on the year of production. Unlike Rolex, Patek doesn’t make that many Nautilus a year, and with smaller production comes greater variation (I showed you this with 3 GEN 5712 grey dials before, they were all very different). So I do appreciate BCF’s effort in narrowing it down to a specific year (making the life of a reviewer like me a lot easier 😆).

<<Hands>>

One of the biggest exterior upgrades that BCF offers is more correct hands. SW, while being one of the best custom rep watch parts makers out there, missed the 5712 hands details by a landslide. Hour and minute hands were ok but smaller hands like power-reserve, date and second hands were…a little too fat. BCF used SW hour and minute hands but made their own smaller hands to match GEN. Oh, and the hands hole (or pinion) are capped with silver hat like GEN. I love this because, well, copper color hands holes stick out like a sore thumb.

<<Case>>

5711 was made by 3CF, PPF, DDF, BBF and even Victory Factory. In short, so many factories made them and they got better and better with competition. Dimensions got more accurate and the lug profile that used to be an ugly round mess became a beautiful bird beak shaped art. Unfortunately, that never happened for 5712.

Only stock factory that (still) make 5712 is PPF and while their latest version was better than their shameful v2, it was nowhere close to being as good as CNC mods circulating in the market. BCF, as the name suggest, uses CNC process to make their case, and very well matches GEN dimension and profile.

<<Bracelet>>

Bracelet is one of those things that you really have to see to know. I will comment more on this later when I do my CUSTOM 5712 vs BCF 5712 review but from the photos it looks good. These new, adjustable buckles have very high defect rate (basically more than half of all recently produced rep buckle of this type by major factories were defective if you are picky about it) and it does make me nervous just looking at it. I do have spare old type buckles for 5712 in my parts bin so I might swap it out. I hope BCF did a good job with this.

<<Movement>>

Unlike most stock reps, BCF just doesn’t have any major red flags when it comes to appearance. Well, considering the price, it shouldn’t. But where BCF really shines, as it did with their 5711 and 5167, is the movement. BCF uses their own caliber super-cloned movement and they have developed one for 5712 as well, BCF 240 caliber. Not only does it have free-sprung balance-wheel, it also has the best-looking engraving I have seen on the market (just look at that finishing!) It’s even better looking than its very fierce competition, ACE movement, in that it has upgraded the shape of pallet fork underneath the balance-wheel. Last but not the least, it has a 18k real gold rotor that you can tell is gold just by looking at the color and finishing (gold plated copper just doesn’t have those fine lines).

All in all, I think BCF has done an excellent job for 5712. If my pre-review sounds biased, it’s because it is. I mean, you are looking at a guy who already bought their 5711 after reviewing it against the current factory champion DDF, and has been waiting for this release ever since 😆.

I will come back next week with a proper on-hand comparison review of BCF 5712. You will see me a happy man with a lighter wallet (however much 3K USD weighs lol).

Hello, this is your favorite watch reviewer u/tskim24 of r/RepWatchForum. Another big movement news (I have just finished writing about AP 4404 Supercloned caliber news before this post) and this time it's IWC replica (not another ROLEX, PATEK or AP 😆).

For those IWC lovers, I sure 7 days Portugieser model has always been on your radar. Of course it has been replicated before, but you probably didn't think it was not good enough to pull the trigger yet.

Well, good news! Shanhai (SH) is taking a stab at it and will be (much like the icon IWC itself) mass producing new and upgraded 52010 caliber soon!

The first factory to have the rights to this movement will be RWF (the factory that named itself after this forum 😆). I did always want to broaden my collection to include more IWC but didn't really like Mark or pilot series (that left me with only Ingenieur and I already collected all the colors 😆) so this is a good news for me as well.

BCF - Patek Philippe 5167A Aquanaut with Real Gold + Free-Sprung Movement

Hello, this is your moderator / favorite watch reviewer u/tskim24 of r/RepWatchForum. Today, I have finally gotten my hands on probably the heaviest hitter of Aquanaut 5167A replica, Best CNC Factory (BCF for short).

I already bought a 5711 from BCF maker and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I'm rocking it almost everyday (well, except for the days I do heavy home improvement and stuff cuz, you know, I value all my precious watches 😆). You probably already saw my comparison review post and wristshot of that.

Only downside of these BCF products is that it's not on the cheapside 😂 With that said, I didn't buy this Aquanaut (but I will probably buy 5712 when BCF releases them) but got it from one of the sellers as a loan so I can do a comparison review against my 5167 in the collection (it's fully modded with what was then all the best parts).

I will get to that review sooner or later so let me just give you a brief rundown of BCF 5167A Patek Philippe Aquanaut rep highlights:

- It's probably the first (and only) CNC of Aquanaut model ever made (which I find strange given that tons of 5711/5712 were made already)

- More accurate case dimensions than the regular factory products

- The newest SW dial batch that was targeted to match a specific year of GEN production (2011, I believe)

- Real gold rotor (much better looking than plated copper)

- Free-sprung balance-wheel 324 Caliber movement

- Only movement in the market with correct pallet fork bridge shape

- Supposedly best buckle (TBH it seems about the same as other major factories)

I won't comment on the price because it is different from all the sellers and I don't want to cause any confusion. But I think it's at least 1k cheaper than CNC 5167 of similar specifications (again, I'm not talking about Prime Mod Studio because PMS doesn't have real gold rotor and doesn't use the same movement with correct pallet fork so while it's another affordable CNC option, it's not a fair comparison).

I will come back with a comparison review soon but as I was impressed with BCF 5711 before, this Aquanaut too looks pretty darn good. Too bad that I won't be keeping this bad boy after the review 😔

CLEAN PLUS NEW RELEASE - Oyster Perpetual with JH3230 Caliber (free-sprung)

Clean Plus releasing Oyster Perpetual with JH 3230 free-sprung balance-wheel movement.

As I have mentioned before, all factories are moving towards free-sprung balance-wheel movements. Some have chosen JH(or SH) and others have chosen unofficial (and quite frankly, not so good looking) DD 32 calibers.

Personally, if you are going for free-sprung movement, JH is the way to go at this point.

QF NEW RELEASES - WITH JH FREE-SPRUNG CALIBER

As it has already done in the past (with Daytonas and such), QF is releasing a whole bunch of Rolex reps with JH Free-sprung caliber. Although Dandong is developing their version of free-sprung caliber and some watch factories took it upon themselves to upgrade the DD to free-sprung, the official version of DD free-sprung is still not here yet. So JH is the currently best-looking, the king of free-sprung caliber.

I do have Explorer II on my wishlist 😆 Are you looking forward to any models?

Dandong 330 vs GEN 330 Caliber Patek Philippe Movement Comparison

Hello, this is your favorite moderator / watch reviewer u/tskim24 of r/RepWatchForum.

Recently, Dandong, the movement factory considered the best by many, have newly released their v1 supercloned movement of 330 Patek Philippe caliber. FYI GEN 330 caliber is an upgrade to 324 caliber movement (with added hacking function, accuracy and all that) and are housed in some last production of 5711 and all of its successor 5811.

Initially, factories like DDF used 324 movement with 330 decoration (which didn't perform well due to decorative parts like rotor screw cover sticker falling off) and offered both 324 and 330 versions of 5711 reps. Back then, I advised many to stay away from 330 DDF 5711 because it didn't have hacking function anyway and didn't offer any value for added price.

Well, what you see here is finally a real solution to 330 caliber, a Dandong copy. Of course, if you were buying a 5711 rep, you could just stick to 324 and there wouldn't be any problem but if any good 5811 reps to ever hit the market a good 330 movement is a must.

As you can see, for a v1, DD 330 looks pretty good. Of course the visible part (back, or front of the movement depending on whether you are a watchmaker) is done much better than invisible part that gets covered up by the dial. Oh, and it's not free-sprung yet and has the regulator on the balance-wheel.

Stability will only be known after the test of time but DD doing what DD does, it shouldn't be a big problem (although I have gotten feedback from a few watchmakers that parts related to hacking function still needs improvements). The overall finishing looks good.

But aesthetically, with super high bars set by premium CNC watch and parts manufacturers like BCF and ACE, I do see quite the room for improvements.

Some of the screws and holes are obviously wrong sizes and more fine engravings like "ADJUSTED" and "ISOCHRONISM" are smudged.

And some of the parts where they should have movement jewels are filled in with wrong colors (it probably still has jewels since the other side of that is where the gear stems align but either the size of the jewel is wrong or the cap is designed wrong).

Considering this is v1 and will probably experience a bunch of upgrades in today's heated market, it still looks pretty good. The factory that makes 5711 using DD 330 is AG Factory. I already bought green and white dial from AGF and the green dial that already arrived looks amazing (I will review it when I get to it).

RICH FACTORY NEW RELEASE - RM67-02 France

RICH FACTORY NEW RICHARD MILLE 67-02 release.

Due to its high price and uncertain (or rather unreliable quality control) I guess not that many people are taking risks with RICH RM reps (still haven't seen that many reviews).

I personally am just not an RM guy so I won't be acquiring any more RM reps to review any time soon but good news for those looking for high-quality RM reps. UMI, RICH, PMS have are all competing to establish themselves in this particular market.

Who was waiting for this one?

CLEAN PLUS GMT Release with DD free-sprung Caliber

Hello, this is your favorite watch reviewer u/tskim24 of r/RepWatchForum. Clean Plus recently released a new version of GMTs (I know, another GMT, right?). It looks pretty good since its previous version too didn’t get that many complaints.

The one most notable upgrade would be the uses of “self-modified” Dandong free-sprung movement. What this means is that it’s based on DD movements but the free-sprung balancewheel portion was not officially upgraded by DD but modified by Clean Plus themselves.

Well, these exactly the same movements were already witnessed in recent VSF releases, so whoever is doing the upgrade modifications, they are handing them out to everyone to use.

The only reason to go free-sprung IMO is more accurate appearance to GEN, and SH free-sprung movements still look way better than these half-upgraded mess. So I think I would stick it out until DD releases their official version of free-sprung movements (which could be any day now from what I heard from the factories but anything could happen and I could always be wrong) or just go ahead with SH version. If you already have the version without free-sprung balancewheel, well, who really cares since these are solid back watches lol.

But these look good though. Recent Rolex reps like Submariners, GMTs and Daytonas are so good that it’s crazy. Other than maybe sharpness of the metal finishing, I would really just wear them right out of the box without any modifications. DJ and DD still needs a lot of work (since all rep bezels are kind of terrible in their own ways) but they are getting better too.
