I am working on creating a 150 gallon species only tank for some red cherry shrimp and i have been getting very conflicting answers on how many shrimp I should put in the tank when I Google it.I found one source that said , upwards of 500 which I find hard to believe and then another source that said 1500 i am looking for any input from anyone who has information on this?Because I'm new to the hobby I don't even have shrimp yet I am going to buy them in a few weeks and I am getting twenty individuals to start with , and i'm going to put them in the tank to breed and hope that it works
I am working on creating a set up in my bedroom where I will be breeding neocardina cherry shrimp to try to create interesting patterns i am not necessarily trying to create a stable line or even stable pattern. I'm just trying to create unique little mutations and see how it turns out when they mix together I have one tank that is 150 gallon and my second one is 25 the larger tank will be where I am putting the low quality cherry shrimp that I am buying to begin with and i will work to pick out any with interesting patterns that I like or the beginnings of genetic lines I like and then I will put them into the smaller tank so that they can cross together at random , i'm not necessarily trying to create a stable pattern or anything , i'm just trying to create something unique and interesting that I can have to brighten up my life i am planning on giving away or selling any that mutate colors that i'm not looking for but that will only be to friends and family nearby. This is not an advertisement that is just information to give you further on my plan of how I'm gonna do this. I understand that there is the risk of them returning to wild type colorations, that's why I will be performing periodic culls of any wild types. I understand how to do it humanely, and I will be doing that although I won't necessarily enjoy it.
I have Two tanks as well as several filters available and proper money and resources to breed neocarina shrimp.I know what variety I would like to breed but I would personally like to be able to create my own interesting or unique pattern on the shrimp, it doesn't necessarily have to be consistent.I'm just looking for cool or interesting patterns that I can sell to other people who don't really care about consistency. And only care about how interesting aquatic genetics can be i'm looking for advice on how I should go about cross breeding shrimp in order to get interesting patterns , even if they aren't consistent or classified as their own new consistent pattern , I have one tank that is 150 gallon and a second one at 25 gallon my current plan is to use the larger tank as basically a genetic reservoir , where a ton of lower quality cherry shrimp will be able to breed without selectivity and I will pick out anyone's with interesting or unique mutations that I like and put them into the smaller tank in order to cross breed and create odd or interesting patterns. They are still going to be pets. But I will be looking to sell some of them locally or online. I am open to any feedback or criticism just please make it constructive and understand that this is my first time doing anything like this
