The administration’s aim is to provide a financial safety net for smaller slaughterhouses at a time when meat processors are losing an estimated $300 per head of cattle.

The smaller meatpackers makeup 15% of the industry, but may give insight into cost for the big meatpackers.

TLDR: US Gov is subsidizing beef prices to keep them from going drastically even higher; if plant-based foods ever had a chance economics wise for wider adoption, it seems to be coming. Any takes?

Seems like a Krispy Kreme story, where they over-expanded and now in contraction mode. I feel plant based foods, especially the meat substitutes come down to how much they cost vs. the real thing; otherwise it comes down to a choice and conviction for people to purchase products like BYND, Impossible, etc. I’m holding a stake as a hedge against meat prices overtaking the substitute or a supply chain issue like tainted meat (which is now way more possible with all the deregulation that has happened in the industry).
