I never use Reading view. Am I the only one?

Hi:

I never use Reading View.

For me, the experience of Edit Mode rendering is extremely useful, and I never have the need to jump over to Reading View. As far as I know, I'm not really missing anything. I do grant that sometimes dealing with text suddenly expanding or contracting as the underlying raw markdown is revealed can sometimes be annoying. However, I've gotten used to it and it's an annoyance-level problem for me at this point.

I come from a coding background, and I like the way that Obsidian emulates IDEs to a certain degree.

When I first got started, I was sometimes confused by the adoration of some Themes and Plugins. Later, I realized that many of them target Reading View.

What about you? What are your thoughts about Reading View and Edit Mode in your workflow?

EDIT: I should also say that I use Obsidian for my own writing. I use Zotero for PDFs and web captures.

I just created r/ObsidianDevelopers - want to help?

Hi:

r/ObsidianDevelopers exists now.

If you would like to help me with it, DM or leave a post over there.

I see an opportunity to stand up a developer-focused community on reddit, and I'm a very rookie mod. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Blue

Is there a plugin that let's me edit Properties from within the note itself?

Hello, everybody:

I find that CRUD-ing Properties in the frontmatter YAML is is fairly friction inducing.

EDIT: better description of the friction I'm experiencing:

  • I realize, mid sentence, that I need to ensure that my "description" Property or a Tag, for example, needs to be added, updated, etc. I stop typing, click up in the frontmatter, create, update, etc. The same is true of the File Properties sidebar.
  • Then, I navigate back to the flow.

I'm wondering if there's another way?

What I'm picturing:

  • From the body of a Note, enter a command via the usual methods.
  • A name-value pair editor appears, very similar to how editing Properties works in Live View Mode.
  • With the focus in the left side of the editor, start typing or using arrow keys or the mouse scroll through the list to select the desired Property.. For example, if I type the letter a, a chooser list appears that lists all of the Property names in my vault that being with the letter a. Further typing filters the list further. Typical filtered list behavior.
  • Once I've chosen a Property name, I can tab over to the Value side. A filtered list appears here, as well, including the current set of Values if any.
  • Of course, I can add new Property/Value pairs, as well.

Does such thing exist?

Thanks,

Blue
