Regrets, advice or recommendations from those who have built a house?

Hi all as the title says looking to hear the good the bad and ugly of peoples experiences building a house
Anything you wish you had done or known, wish someone had told you? Any suggestions or recommendations for someone approaching themselves?
Basically anything you wouldn’t necessarily know or learn without going through it.

If anyone kept a blog or log online of their experiences appreciate that too.

Thanks!

Advice re work took enforcement situation?

Hi all,

Hoping this group could help with advice on what do with a work situation.

My work has brought in a self made AI “tool” that we are all to use effective immediately. It’s meant to replace existing processes and tools and stop us paying for external tools.

Without giving myself away, the tool effectively doesn’t work. It was put together by a consultant who is a friend of someone in leadership and is about as useful as a temu tool but has a shiny label. We’ve been told that any employee who needs to use the “old” process which is much safer, regulated etc must get approval and have a business case or face disciplinary.

Everyone is US based except for me for the context of this. I tried using the tool last week and it doesn’t do what we need to do at all. I sent an email to the leadership department as work is due to start today and now can’t and I’m blocking a project, I outlined my challenge, my ask and my recommendation (for where we use and where we don’t). I’ve been strongly advised against being a “blocker” but the reality is if it worked I’d be happy to use it, but it just doesn’t. Everyone is now mad at me cause I’m blocking work but I don’t want to get myself in trouble.

Any advice appreciated as I’m at a loss whether I’m doing the right thing or not or how to approach moving forward. Thanks all

Decision due by dates for planning appeals?

Hi all, hoping someone on this thread might have some insight into the appeal process with An Coimisiún Pleanála, formerly An Bord Pleanála.

We submitted an appeal to ACP on local county councils refusal of our planning, the decision due by date is this week but no word- letter, email etc yet.

Does anyone have experience with how likely it is to actually get a decision by the decision due date or how likely it is that ACP might extend the deadline? Does the decision usually come via letter and it the website usually updated instantly?

Living on my nerves. Any advice or knowledge appreciated greatly thanks.

Becoming a carer?

Hi all,

Hoping to get some advice from carers, people studying care, or family and friends of those who do it.

For a long time now I’ve been thinking about becoming a carer. It’s not a spur of the moment decision, it’s something I’ve been considering on and off for years. Through family members I’ve seen firsthand the difference good carers can make, and lately I’ve found myself feeling more drawn towards the profession.

At the minute I work in a corporate role, so my thinking would be to stay where I am for another year or so and study part-time. The QQI Level 5 seems to be the main route in. Has anyone done it through Chevron College or another provider? I’d love to hear about the courses themselves, distance learning versus classroom learning, the quality of the training, and how the work placement side of things actually works. Do colleges help you find placements or are you expected to source them yourself?

I’d also love to hear what the job is actually like day-to-day. The good, the bad, the ugly, the bits nobody tells you beforehand. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much
