It is very ad-hoc, but in hindsight, you can't help but think that too many resources were wasted on the wrong players. Yes, after the marvellous 12 in 2017, Lin Gaoyuan seemed like a promising option, especially because players were starting to adapt to the extreme close-to-the-table styles. But after his constant losses to foreign players on the international stage, he should have been let go. I always felt that Liu Guoliang favoured him over others. Jingkun, on the other hand, is a very baffling choice to be put out on the international stage to begin with. He is about the same age as Fan Zhendong, so he is quite old (or at least, by Chinese standards). He does not have any major achievements at all. Why were the last few years spent putting him out on the international stage time and time again? Even in his "prime" he was not really remarkable in chinese standards at all. Going to be honest, feel like any other chinese national a team player could have replicated what he did. The chinese mens team have been known to have many internal politics, so I wonder if this had to do with that.
