DR650 vs. KLR650?
The age old question. For a long time, I have been set on buying a first gen KLR650 as my first bike when the time is right. The price, the reliability, the style, and the jack-of-all-trades (including the master-of-none part) aspects have drawn me in to want the KLR (including persuasion from FortNine). However, FortNine also highly praises the DR650. It has good styling, more horsepower, and is lighter. But, those also come at the price increase of $3,500-$5,000 over the KLR650’s $1,500-$3,000 in my area. Genuinely, which should I pick for my first bike? What I will be using it for is mostly street riding with occasional off-roading and bike camping. I liked the idea of spending less for a starter bike which might be the biggest sway towards the KLR650 at this moment.
