SOTD: HC&C Judge Roy
Lather: hendrixclassics
Brush: Morris and Forndran
Razor: 1959 Gillette Fatboy
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Splash: hendrixclassics
Pomade: PND Pompage
Beard Oil/Balm: Black Label Tuscan Leather
EdP: dossierperfumes Powdery Tobacco
Main Soap Ingredients: Aloe juice, stearic acid, glycerin, palm oil, kokum butter, shea butter, coconut oil, mango butter, castor oil, bentonite clay.
Brush Performance: The Morris and Forndran badger absolutely ate this soap up. Dense backbone with soft tips, and it had no problem holding enough lather for three comfortable passes plus cleanup.
Lather: HC&C’s base builds into a dense, creamy lather with that glossy yogurt texture that stays stable through the shave.
Cushion/Slickness: Excellent protection. The Fatboy glided smoothly even on buffing passes, and residual slickness was strong enough that I could touch up without relathering certain spots.
Razor/Blade: The 1959 Gillette Fatboy paired with a Polsilver Super Iridium is a “can’t miss” setup. Smooth, efficient, and forgiving. The Polsilver gave me that sharp-but-silky feel that works perfectly with a rich artisan base like this.
Post Shave Feel: Face felt calm and conditioned afterward. No tightness, no dry patches.
Splash/Balm: The Judge Roy splash gives a nice medium burn up front, then settles into a warm woody dry down that hangs around longer than most artisan splashes.
Scent Profile: Judge Roy is officially an inspired-by take on Tom Ford Oud Wood with a woody oriental profile built around oud, rosewood, cardamom, sandalwood, vetiver, tonka, vanilla, and amber.
Scent Matching: I paired the soap and splash with Pomps Not Dead Pompage pomade and Black Label Tuscan Leather beard oil/balm, and finished with Dossier Powdery Tobacco. The combination of woods, leather, tobacco, and spice adds warmth and tobacco sweetness that smooths everything together.
Verdict: This felt like a high-end shave from start to finish. 3-pass DFS.
