Lacing a rim-brake rim to a disc brake hub is a weird build, but its practical.

I laced a CR-18 36h rim to a PL-8X Shutter Precision Dynamo hub. The hub is the 12 mm thru-axle center-lock disc version. I used double-butted Sapim Race spokes. I have several bikes with different brake standards and I wanted an easily multi-use dynamo wheel, that would work with a 2023 Kona Sutra, a 1982 Univega Specialissima Touring bike with front disc brake conversion fork and 1990 Bianchi Tangent Cyclocross bike with rim brakes.

The Kona has a 12mm thru axel and disc brakes. On this bike the wheel works without adapters.

The Specialissima has the front disk conversion fork, but it has QR dropouts. It converts nicely with a 12 mm QR adapter,

The Bianchi accepts QR only and has rim brakes. I remove the disc, add the QR adapter and it works fine.

I chose the center-lock version because it doesn't look as weird as a naked six bolt mount when the disc brake is not installed.

I guess I'm sacrificing a bit of weight savings by lacing a rim brake rim to a disc hub, but I'm not bothered by that, as usually I use these bikes for loaded touring. Because these bikes already have their own wheels, I can simply swap in the dynamo hub for a trip and take it off when I need to. Als it works with all multiple bikes.
