Live in France, car registered in Switzerland – what's that all about?

I live in eastern France, close to the border with Switzerland, and I often see cars with Swiss licence plates driving around, including parked in people's driveways. I assume the owners have somehow registered the vehicle in Switzerland although they live in France. I have two questions:

  1. How have they managed to do this? I understood that you need to be resident in Switzerland in order to register a vehicle there. Of course, some of them may have second homes in Switzerland, but I can't believe they all do.

  2. Why would you want to do this anyway? Is it advantageous somehow?

Private members' clubs

In London there are things called private members' clubs. They are essentially bars but the key point about them is that they don't let just anyone in, you have to be a member (for which you pay an annual fee). They are not places to dance, but just to drink, chat, read, maybe have a bite to eat. Do such places exist in Geneva?

A woman died at the weekend while hiking on the Salève

A woman was reported missing a couple of days ago after she went hiking on the Salève last Saturday and didn't come back. Sadly, her body has now been discovered. She was a UN staff member living in Nairobi who had just arrived in Geneva for a work visit. The cause and manner of her death have not yet been made public.

Train tickets valid for any train

Hi, I'm travelling from Geneva to Annecy tomorrow but I don't know at this point what time I'm going to make the journey. So I want to buy a single one-way ticket valid on any train. But on the SBB website it only seems possible to buy a ticket for one specific departure time. Where is the option to buy a flexible ticket valid at any time tomorrow? Many thanks.
