Am I letting an opportunity slip by for not applying to GRFP
So I’m applying to PhD in CS, but I still cant set my mind on whether to apply for the GRFP, which has letters due on the 16th.
I have fully written out projects I’m working on, and I’m pretty sure it will make a good grfp statement. But the problem is, that project is supervised by a very senior professor, so I mainly meet with his postdocs. I’m pretty sure I only have a one time pass to ask him for letters, and I certainly don’t want to use it on grfp. But I do have two other CS professors who can write me letters, and another prof from other disciplines who knows me well, but I don’t want to rush them with a deadline less than 10 days…
That said, in the past week I’ve been trying to convince myself that I’m not going to spend my time on something that might not even help my application; while the other voice is saying I’m screwing this up….
I’m very anxious about this, so please give some advice:
- Does the grfp boost my chance of getting into a top cs PhD program?
- Given my situation with letters and time, should I apply?
