From riches to fuliza.

Some years ago, my business was thriving, lived in own house, plots, Diani holidays, premio... the works. The only way was up.

To grow the business, I took some loans, and bigger risks.

Then, from 2020, it all came crushing down like a house of cards. From grace to grass.

Currently earning between KSh 10 - 15K per month, just enough for the bare minimum basics for the family. Fuliza is constant. The biggest savior is owning my house and growing most of our food.

I'm however, working on regaining my stature again. Down but not out.

Some Lessons learned:

Live healthy. Live within your means. Define your own success. Build your own house, earliest possible. Don't worry about what others think of you Accept and adjust to emerging circumstances. Take time to know your future partner: "for better, for worse" Don't be poor at 50.

Ask My Shoe: Update and Appreciation.

A few days ago I posted an appeal for a pair of school shoes for a friend's son. Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/nairobi/s/Ia2qpQ8Tda

Good news!! There were positive responses and one person offered to buy the shoes!

I suggested, for accountability, that the shoes could be bought online (Bata and Umoja shoe stores) and delivered to Nyeri. The benefactor preferred Umoja, @ KSh 2,600.

Instead of buying online, they chose to sent the 2,600 directly to the mom's mpesa.

Knowing her situation better she bought a handcrafted pair of shoes from a Nyeri shoemaker for 1,000 (real leather, good quality and workmanship), paid school fees balance for another son, 1,000, and bought food/groceries with the remaining 600 Bob.

To A.M., the benefactor: Thank you. May the mom's tears of joy and gratitude bring blessings your way. Tomorrow, the young man will stand tall, representing his school in a scrabble and chess competition wearing your gift!

Ask my shoe: A student in need.

I assist this boy's parents to pay school fees. The dad has been unwell for some months and has exhausted his finances...you know how it goes with hospital bills.

The boy is very hardworking and comes top of all grade 10 classes.

Yesterday, he came to my place and it broke my heart to see his shoes so seriously worn out. I could have bought him a pair, but Im broke at the moment.

Someone please help get this bright young man a pair of school shoes size 9.

For accountability, the shoes can be sent by courier to his mom in Nyeri. (Mpesa is OK too) Please DM for details.

*I posted this yesterday, then deleted in order to ask for clearance from the boy’s mom, and the MODs.

Thanks.
