Book about a girl in a seaside town, eccentric aunt/grandmother, twin dressmakers, innkeeper who makes bad soup

Posted a year ago but still searching!! My other request (also involving soup…not sure what that’s about) was solved yesterday so I am reposting with renewed hope 🤞

I have been searching for this book for YEARS to no avail. I'm even wondering if it could have been a movie or an episode of some obscure show, but I'm pretty certain it was a book. It took place in a seaside town that was pretty gloomy. I remember there being a boy character and a girl. The girl lived with her great-aunt or possibly a grandmother in a house up on a bluff. The house was described as being pretty dilapidated and her aunt was an eccentric old lady who had a bunch of odd pets, owls and stuff like that. The town also had a dress shop that was owned by twin sisters. The most distinct thing that I remember was that the town had a bed and breakfast owned by a man who made seafood chowder or some other kind of soup and it was known to make people sick because he was such a terrible cook, but nobody ever warned the tourists about it. I think this was because they didn't want an influx of tourism in the town. I don't remember the details of the actual plot itself (maybe something about a magical creature?) but I really remember the setting and these little character details!

Book with “Mystery Meat” stew

Okay, the only thing I remember about this book (maybe YA or else middle-grade) is that the main character is new to town (I think her grandfather had passed away and her family had inherited some apartments or rental homes he owned) and makes friends with another girl who she sees picking up an opossum on the side of the road. The girl then invites her over and offers her “mystery meat” stew. The MC believes that there is roadkill in the stew, but later confronts the friend about it and learns that “mystery meat” is a joke and the friend’s family is actually vegetarian, and that the rescued opossum had had babies in its pouch that the friend had taken to an animal rescue. I have no idea what the main plot of this book is, but apparently something about the stew really stuck with me, lol!
