FUCK this exam

I hate with all my heart studying for this exam. I know I may be stressed and burnt out but the NBME questions and explanations are full of BULLSHIT. Borderline nonsensical.

Obscure presentations, obtuse language, inconsistent logic... don't even know where to begin. I have been scoring 260s but still I feel like guessing in most questions.

I guess this acute stress disorder of mine has an expiration date in 2 days from now. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

ECFMG Certification

Hi all, hope everything is going well,

My medical school won't be able to issue my final medical diploma so for now they wrote the letter in accordance to ECFMG rules. However, ECFMG told me they will not do credential verification until my final medical diploma has been issued.

Does that mean that I will not be able to be ECFMG certified even though the rest of the requirements from pathway 1 (including the letter of good standing from my medical council) are met?

If anyone went through something like this will much appreciate input/advice

How is it living in Salem, NH?

Got some job offers in the boston area and nearby NH towns, wondering how is it living there for a single adult in their early thirties.

I guess that being like a 30-40 min drive to boston makes it easy to get access to their amenities, but how's life overall there? Does it have great social life overall or would I have to rely on boston for that?

Should I drop Amboss and start CMS and NBMEs?

Hey, so I currently have an EPC of 83.5% on Amboss and have gone through 2500 ish questions (have around 950 left). Have not taken any NBME but amboss predicts a 268 result (which I'm more than happy with - applying psych). Took also UWSA 1 and scored an 81%, around a 261

My plan was to finish qbank and then the CMS forms followed by NBMEs but given that things are going well just wanted to ask - should I drop it to review more CMS forms or should I finish it and just review the latests CMS forms + NBMEs? What would you guys recommend? In case someone took a similar decision, how did it go?

Would be interested in getting this exam done the earliest, target score is 260 but I'm okay with anything over 250

Future job prospects - are we really that screwed?

Incoming MS4 here leaning very heavily towards psych - was torn between IM and psych but finally came to realize what I actually enjoy and see myself doing long term.

The midlevel encroachment is seriously making me worry about making a wrong choice - I kinda know that I will always perform better and add more value in a field that I'm good at and enjoy, but still. And aside from that, the meaning I get from taking care of psych pathology is something I'm not willing to leave behind.

I'm very much decided on psych and feel kinda disillusioned by the recent posts regarding scope creep. I am also aware that it is on us to help fight the encroachment of unqualified professionals in our field - which in my view is much more worrying as bad psychiatry can go undetected very easily and we deal mainly with a vulnerable patient population. At the same time, looking online for jobs it seems things are looking not too bad, even for inpatient/CL round and go positions (as far as I can tell).

I know the ultimate weapon is always to hyperspecialize to market yourself and become immune to midlevels in gen psych, but man, the years of schooling and delayed gratification with residency is more than enough.

TLDR: Just wanted some realistic and somewhat hopeful statements on this topic, if those exist ofc.

I apologize if this is a repeat post as this is my first time posting in here and don't know how things work hahah
