Not Sure What to Try after Derm Complete
Sorry for the very long post!
have a 4.5 yo GSD/Great Pyrenees dog mix who has has on and off tummy issues since we have had him. He will have times where things okay but then will have random bouts of diarrhea and vomiting and then after a day or 2 will go back to his normal. He so started having worsening allergies the last year and requiring Cytopoint (red eyes and drainage, hot spots, itching). When a puppy he was on purina pro puppy but he didn’t seem to like it much (but also he had giardia and idk if it was just being in new environment). We switched to science diet and I remember his fur seemed better. We then switched to Costco normal adult due to cost for the last year and he seemed to be doing okay with that. This winter he had GVD and since then he got way worse and finally in April he had really bad loose stools and vomiting. He also didn’t improve with chicken and rice. We switched abruptly to Derm Complete Prescription Diet and he is doing really well on that. We now know what normal stool looks like (not sticky and completely formed). He also hasn’t required any Cytopoint injections. We also have avoided giving any snacks with meat or meat flavoring.
I asked the vet what the next steps were and she said his GI upset was so severe she ideally would want him to be on it forever. However, he is so big he is going through these bags so quickly. Would the next one to try is PPP GI since it has no chicken by product at all? I am a little hesitant to go back to it and would prefer Hills but it looked like all the OTC had chicken by product in it.
Any advice would be appreciated!
