Michigan Central locomotives

After just getting back into this after years, I'm looking to model Michigan Central and Pere Margaritas more and I'm disappointed that there isn't much out there. So I'm guessing I'll need to kitbash some.

Old school DC... is it bad to highball for a long time?

If the loco stays cool, what are your concerns about how long it should run in a continuous period? I've typically only been about 20-30 minutes, but thought about stretching that time some.
