My ultimate thrift store white whale: €150 for a 1967 Marshall JTM50 Black Flag.
I still can't believe this actually happened. I walked into a local thrift store here in the Netherlands and saw this spray-painted white head sitting in the corner with a €150 price tag. At first glance, I figured it was just a beat-up 90s reissue. Took it to the car, looked closer at the JTM printed directly on the plexi panel and the serial number, and my jaw dropped.
The outside has seen some things. Some absolute genius decided to spray paint the original black tolex white. The logo is also missing.
But the guts oh my oh my..
Original Drake 784-128 transformer, full of mustard caps.
The fix with the modern cap and the terminal block is.. special..
I'm taking the amp to a tech near me (Marble Amps in the Netherlands) to repair and restore and sell it on to someone that'll appreciate it as it's supposed to be appreciated. I'm more of a hardrock/metal player.
UPDATE:
I don't feel comfortable sitting on a museum piece amp. Therefore I'm selling it. I originally thought, when I bought it, that it was a 90s reissue, I would've kept that, obviously. But this thing is too much for me. And of course I'm selling it for more than 150 euros, are you kidding me.
