Shoes to wear at home?

What shoes would you recommend for walking around the house once cleared from NWB? I’ll be at my 6 week mark next week, and hopefully my doctor clears me for PWB/FWB

I’ll have my aircast for when I’m walking outdoors but i’d like to get another shoe that doesn’t go all the way above my calf..

I’m usually barefoot at home but I don’t think I’ll be able to walk barefoot for a while. Appreciate any recommendations!

2 weeks post orif recovery

Got my stitches out today, feels great! My doctor is amazing, the stitches were really neat. I thought the removal was going to hurt, but turns out she used dissolvable stitches and they only had to snip of the ends which were not dissolvable.

Theres a slight dark skin in the middle of my incision, she gave me antibiotic cream to apply every 3-4 days when i change my dressing.

I can wiggle my toes and move my ankle well now, staying positive. It only gets better from here! Hope this post brings some hope for anyone else recovering :)

1 week post-op recovery!

Just wanted to share how my foot looks like 8-9 days post op! It seems like the way each of us heals vary a lot (based on how extensive our injuries were), and I just wanted to share some photos of my own recovery for anyone who wonders how their recovery might go in the future if they unfortunately have to join the club. Will keep updating weekly!

I’m currently doing back and forth movements with my ankle to help support blood circulation in my calves (also hopefully not have it shrink so fast) with my doctor’s guidance. This exercise seems to help reduce the tingling and swelling sensations when i move around, i don’t feel that as much intense pressure when I put my leg down. Hopefully it helps me recover faster! If anyone has any tips please let me know 🙏

Sleeping is still difficult, i slept in my aircast last night and the shape of the boot kind of hurts me, but at least my foot is protected…

Lisfranc 3 days post-op recovery

Finally done with my ORIF surgery after waiting 2 weeks for my flu to resolve. Highly recommend getting a knee scooter if you hate being slow like myself. A walking frame is good too for stability especially when you’re still woozy the first few days, because my crutches honestly did not help when i was tipping forward or back.

This was my first time having surgery my entire life so I was very nervous and worried. The experience itself was actually very smooth.

Day 1: Woke up from anaesthesia feeling super loopy, said some funny stuff, kept falling back asleep but as soon as i was fully awake, i was super energised and hungry. The pain was there the moment i woke up; i don’t think they gave me a nerve block because of the side effects. After about 5-7 hours the pain increased but could be managed with tramadol and anarex. The pain comes and goes.

I was warned of the side effects of GA (nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite) but surprisingly i felt fine and even ate fries.

One thing i wasn’t prepared for was not being able to move about after GA to use the toilet. And my hospital recently switched up their bedpans from plastic to cardboard which makes it flimsier so…. The only other option was diapers. Be mentally prepared for that

Day 2: Pain increased, came in pulses more frequently but still well managed with tramadol and anarex which made me super sleepy so i just rested all day and practiced using my crutches every now and then. Appetite was still fine. Kept my foot above my hip level as much as i could. Finally showered for the first time.

Whenever the pain came, it felt like my foot was burning super hot and being sawed apart. My splint would start feeling very tight like my foot’s about to explode. Made me tear up a few times but always gets better after taking painkillers. It gets worse at night.

I actually found a hack that stops the pain for me, which is to lie on my tummy and just keep my foot up while im lying flat. I feel much less pressure being put onto my foot in this position, rather than lying flat on my back and keeping my leg raised. I don’t think my doctor would advise that so i try not to do it unless it hurts too much.

Day 3: My pain finally subsided! It’s 5pm here now and i havent taken any painkiller since 5am this morning (tramadol). I don’t know how to explain it but you just feel better and stronger than the first two days. I’m moving around the house as much as possible in my knee scooter/walking frame, sitting on my sofa instead of lying down on the bed.

Wasn’t given any blood thinners anyway, my doctor doesn’t think i need it. I’m scared of blood clots so i still pump my calves every time i remember to and move around when i can. Drink lots of water too.

My first and second toe still feels kinda numb and bruised but the tip of my toes are pink and i still feel it when i touch my toes. Not too worried about that.

Hope this information helps anyone else who is about to have their surgery :)

Flying for 8 hours, 2.5 weeks post planned surgery

Hi guys, I have a surgery coming up in a week and I’ll be in a cast for 2 weeks. I’m planning to go ahead with my scheduled flight 2.5 weeks post surgery and it’ll be an 8 hour long flight. Has anyone does this and what did you do to mitigate any of the risks?

Lisfranc fracture + intermediate tears w/o surgery?

Female in my 20s joining the club. Bent my right foot a bit too hard last saturday while sprinting and pivoting in a game of Futsal. Went to the A&E and got my X-ray (non weight bearing) done, a&e doctor said it was likely just a sprain and there were no fractures.

Was referred to the ortho surgeon and got my MRI done. Was limping and bearing weight on my right foot for 6 days before I was diagnosed with:

“High-energy Lisfranc's fracture-dislocation with multipart minimally displaced fracture involving the medial cuneiform bone and possibly the base of the second metatarsal, marrow contusions in the navicular bone and the lateral cuneiform bone. There are associated high to intermediate grade tears of the Lisfranc's ligament complex and intercuneiform ligaments as described.”

The ortho said i didn’t need surgery and just had to be in a boot, and to see him in 3 weeks. He didn’t say I have to not bear any weight on my foot either. My swelling and bruising is gone now but I just came across this forum and realised how everyone had to be NWB, and I’m worried I might have shifted any bones since I’ve been walking around the house in my boot the past week.

Anyone in the same situation as me or am I just unfortunate and too careless? Did you end up needing surgery later on? I really don’t want surgery…
