Container buttergold sweet corn

Did my second try at container corn.

These were 30 gallon bags with some spent soil from last season amended with steer, chicken, and mushroom compost, and garden tone.

Day 67 from a direct sow (although I had trouble with racoons digging it up).

Had a lot of aphids towards the end, but the insides were still good.. the harvest is from one container, and I still have the other 3 to go.

Very sweet and way better than my try last year.

In retrospect, I should have planted less in each container and fertilized more at the early stages. I didn't feed at all for about a month and then fed with Alaska fish fertilizer and switched to a Neptune's harvest I had laying around once per week. I probably should have fed more nitrogen early on, but I think it still turned out well.

I tried this last year with another early variety, but had some pollination problems a tons of pests. This year I was more vigilant on the caterpillars and 'forced' wind pollination by hand.

Help finding a type of dried meat stick/sausage based on memory

Sorry if this is vague since I'm going off of memory.

Growing up, my dad had a friend who was a hunter and would give us a huge batch of these home made venison meat sticks in a collagen casing. It didn't seem liked it was the red thinner meat stick casings, but more like the collagen sausage casings, because they were much thicker and not perfectly cylindrical.

It was very dry and more similar to a hard jerky than a meat stick like a slim jim or jack links. It was a very hard bite, something that you could not easily tear, and you would get a jaw workout just chewing The taste was very meaty, almost like a dried salami, but not as heavy on the spices.

Edit: It could very well be Landjaeger. Looking at pictures, it looks very similar, with the flat appearance in a collagen casing. I've never knowingly purchased these and not sure of the texture.

edit: the hunter friend was from Minnesota, in case a location give any help to any local foods.

Critters dug up my newly prepared pots :(

After some burnout for a few months, I decided to dump all my soil, amend it and repot into 30 gallon containers it was a lot of work.

Just sowed some corn, melons, squash and beans yesterday to wake up to this :(. Every container I have including a citrus bush I had had been dug up.

I'm thinking it could be a raccoon looking for grubs or something.

Not sure how I can prevent this.
