[WeWantOut] 40sM Program Manager Indonesia -> Malaysia\Singapore\New Zealand\Australia\Canada

Hi everyone,

I’m a senior PMO/Program/Project Manager from Indonesia in my early 40s with 18+ years of experience across mining, aviation, telecommunications, and digital transformation industries. My background includes leading enterprise-scale transformation programs, PMO governance, ERP/program delivery, operational improvement initiatives, and cross-functional technology projects in large corporate environments.

Education & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering/Telecommunication Management
  • PgMP®, PMP®, PMI-ACP®, PMI-RMP®, PMO-CP®, Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Strong experience in digital transformation, enterprise systems, governance, stakeholder management, and business improvement

Family Situation

I’m married with 3 children. One of my children has speech delay and Tourette syndrome, so access to inclusive education, therapy services, healthcare support, and safe family-friendly communities are extremely important considerations for us.

Current Situation & Goals

I’m seriously exploring long-term relocation pathways to:

  • New Zealand
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore

Potential pathways I’m considering:

  • Skilled migration
  • Employer sponsorship/work visa
  • Postgraduate study leading to work opportunities and PR

Financially, I still need to carefully evaluate affordability because relocating a family of five internationally is obviously a major commitment. I’m trying to approach this realistically and strategically rather than emotionally.

My Main Priorities

  • Long-term stability and quality of life
  • Inclusive support systems for special-needs children
  • Sustainable career opportunities at senior/project/program management level
  • Accessible healthcare and therapy services
  • Reasonable pathway toward permanent residency/citizenship
  • Safe and family-oriented environment

I understand that my age, family size, and dependent needs may make this process more difficult, especially in the current immigration climate. Because of that, I would really appreciate realistic advice from people who have gone through similar experiences or work in these industries/countries.

Questions

  • Which country is currently the most realistic for someone with my background and profile?
  • How difficult is employer sponsorship at my age and seniority level?
  • Are PMO/program management roles still in demand enough for visa sponsorship?
  • Would postgraduate study still make strategic sense in my situation, or would it be too risky financially at this stage of life?
  • How supportive are public schools and healthcare systems for children with developmental/speech needs?
  • Which cities best balance career opportunities, healthcare access, and family quality of life?
  • Are there industries or regions I should focus on more heavily, given my background in mining, aviation, and transformation?

I genuinely appreciate honest insights, practical recommendations, success stories, or even hard truths that could help us make informed decisions for our family’s future.

Thank you very much.

International Student — How Do People Actually Afford Mines?

Hi everyone,

I’m a professional from Southeast Asia with 15 years of experience. I recently received an LoA from Colorado School of Mines for the Master’s in Engineering and Technology Management (Fall 2027).

The total self-funded cost is around $50k - $100k, and honestly I’m unsure what the best path is — student debt, scholarships, assistantships, or other funding options. Is the program worth it from your perspective?

Right now I’m also in the Fulbright selection process using this LoA, but the process is taking quite a long time and I still haven’t received further updates.

Besides Fulbright and the Jerome Broussard Fellowship, are there any other funding options I should explore? Maybe assistantships, partial scholarships, fellowships, on-campus jobs, or anything else?

Would really appreciate advice from current students, alumni, or international students who had a similar experience. Thank you!
