Aerial View of Water Testing Today

Was a bit spooked to see this earlier today, but it's a planned test!

>Norwalk, CT - Environmental Analysis from Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Aquaculture (CTDOAG) and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) along with scientists from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) Division of Seafood Science and Technology will be conducting a hydrographic dye dilution study to assess shellfish growing areas and harvesting practices in support of the significant commercial shellfish operations present in the coastal waters of Norwalk.

The study will begin on May 18 and will track flow and dispersion from the Norwalk Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) through the Norwalk River and into the Long Island Sound. A fluorescent Rhodamine WT dye will be released from the Norwalk WWTF beginning the morning of May 18 around 8:00 AM and will continue for approximately 12 hours until 8:30 PM. As a result of the dye injection, portions of Norwalk River and Harbor may turn reddish in color for a brief time and will be visible from the shores of Norwalk. Please note that this dye is not harmful to people or the ecosystem.
