Left hand vs Right hand

I have been biting my nails since I was 3 and I’m REALLY trying to quit for good this time… After not biting or picking my cuticles for the last 2 weeks I’m in that dry flaky phase so I thought painting my nails might make me less vulnerable to picking! How did I do? I’m right handed so I always like how my left hand looks more but any tips other than just practice?

Rescued(?) a parakeet!

To make a long story short… I went shopping with my coworker after work today and as we were walking up to the Ross a woman and her small kid approached us and tried to sell us their bird. She told us they had recently become unhoused and couldn’t keep the bird. She wanted $80 and I kept telling her like sorry for the situation but no thank you and after a bunch of back and forth she got fed up and just put the cage down and stormed off. Whole time the kid is clearly upset and after I just look at my friend like ???? Like what do we do?

We tried following the lady and being like you can’t just leave it but she just ignored us and took off in her car. So now I have a bird… At least for the time being I guess. We drove to a Petco down the street to get it food as there was nothing in the cage but a perch. The employees and Google were pretty helpful but basically what I would like is some advice about my current setup. I’m not 100% positive the little guy will stay with me forever I might try to find it a proper home but in the meantime it’s clearly been through alot so I just wanted to give it a nicer environment.

We picked out a larger cage (18x18x30), picked out a real wood perch, got some toys and cuttlebone, potty pads, Petco employee recommended Higgins Vitaseed mix and when they found out I already have guinea pigs told me theres alot of similar things I feed my pigs I can give the bird too. Is there anything you think I should add or change? Also could anyone tell me the birds sex? I’m thinking girl but I’m not positive because I think it’s still a baby idk it looks tiny… Name suggestions would also be great!

I really appreciate the help! :)

The cage it was in was filthy and the plastic part was cracked in a lot of places so
