about sliet
I have completed my first year of B.Tech at SLIET Longowal, and based on my experience, I can confidently say that if you're looking for a college with a good return on investment (ROI), SLIET is definitely worth considering.
First of all, the tuition fees are relatively low compared to many other engineering colleges. At the same time, you're studying at a Central University that is NAAC A-grade accredited and recognized as a GFTI (Government Funded Technical Institute). It also has strong potential for further growth and development in the coming years.
If your JEE rank is such that SLIET is one of your options, I genuinely believe there are very few colleges that can offer a better combination of affordability, campus life, and opportunities. Many private colleges charge significantly higher fees while admitting a much larger number of students, which increases competition for placements and resources. In comparison, SLIET offers a much better value for money.
The campus itself is one of the highlights. It is large, green, and peaceful, providing a great environment for both academics and personal growth. You'll also enjoy an active campus life with sports, cultural events, technical fests, and various student activities. Another advantage is the location—popular destinations like Shimla and Kasol are just a few hours away, making weekend trips convenient.
When it comes to coding and technical development, the opportunities are there. The coding culture is steadily improving, and the clubs are active. Last year, one of our seniors excelled in competitive programming, cracked Google Summer of Code (GSoC), and eventually secured an opportunity with Google with a package of around ₹56–57 LPA. This shows that students who are dedicated can achieve outstanding results.
In my opinion, the biggest limitation is not the college—it's the mindset of some students. The opportunities exist, but not everyone takes advantage of them. Companies are willing to recruit talented students, but ultimately your success depends on how much effort you put into building your skills.
If you maintain a good CGPA, consistently improve your technical skills, participate in coding contests, work on projects, and actively explore new opportunities, you'll be in a strong position for internships and placements.
Hostel life is another memorable part of the experience. While there are certain rules and restrictions, they help create a disciplined environment. You'll make close friends, learn to live independently, and create memories that stay with you for years.
One thing I would strongly recommend is to interact with seniors and your peers. There are many talented students across different domains, and learning from them can accelerate your own growth.
Overall, if you're looking for an engineering college that offers affordable education, a beautiful campus, decent placements, good coding opportunities, and an enjoyable college life, SLIET is definitely a college you should consider. At the end of the day, your success will depend much more on your own dedication and hard work than on the name of the college itself.
