Seeking advice getting back into the gym...
Well I will try to keep this short and sweet lol. I have struggled with my weight my whole life I graduated Highschool at almost 300lbs and passed that soon after. At around 18 I finally did something about it and discovered proper dieting and back then the bodybuilding.com forums were a super helpful resource. I ended up getting to around 200lbs then I got into the gym but I was never consistent for more than a few months at a time, I got down to my lowest of 166lbs then rebounded to 180s for a long time. Once I hit 30's things got harder. I am now about to turn 40 and in January of this year I was 251lbs. Today I am 224lbs, back on track with diet, fully locked in. The weight will continue to fall off just a matter of time. But I am almost ready to get back into the gym finally.... I need zero support with diet but I am a little lost with lifting.
So I am turning 40 so older, may talk to my doctor about test testing? I have to get a new PCP this year and was going to consult with him about all this but that's in July. There is no specific physique goal I just want to be healthier and stop feeling like sh!t. I will need to start slow. I have high BP but controlled with meds. I also have some pretty bad arm injures I have broken both my humerus right in 2020 and left in 2021 and I had to have surgery, metal rods, and pins. I have now noticeable imbalance and strength loss in my left arm I am concerned about.
I have an active job, on my feet all day and get 15k+ steps just at work a day. I was thinking of starting with a 3 day Push/Pull/Legs split. I favored a 3-4 day split when I was in the gym in my 20's so I figured if I did the 3 day P/P/L split after a couple few months once my body acclimated maybe drop one of the rest days and run the split every 6 days vs 7.
I don't want to over complicate, I am looking for a healthy and sustainable routine, so looking for advice....
