Dreadnought suggestions

Hello!

I have been playing on and off for a few years and have also started recording at home. I own very basic guitars -

Yamaha CSF1M - I got this mostly as a travel/couch guitar. Love the sound, but it's not that good for recording, sounds quite thin.

I also had a Yamaha FSX800C, that I recently sold. Again, a small body guitar, and even though it had great sound, it was not the full sound that I was looking for in some recordings.

So, I am in the market for a dreadnought. I have always wanted to buy a Martin - but I am not really at the place yet where I can buy a D-28. I can afford it, but I do not want to invest that much in a guitar just yet. I had made up my mind on the D-12E Retro Road series - I even played it at my local GC and liked it. But then I came to know about the Eastman E8D, which is also pretty well rated. So, yeah - needed some suggestion on this.

I would obviously value the sound, but I really believe that money can't buy sound - like, it varies and sometimes even cheap guitars sound amazing. But I do believe that comfort and playability, and material and quality, are directly proportional to the money spent. I really want something that is comfortable - that works well out of the box, maybe even without a setup, and has good materials and even better craftmanship. The best balance between the these factors, including the sound, would be my optimal choice.

Based on that, what would your suggestion be? Currently looking at D-12E and E8D, but other suggestions in that price range are welcome. I'd prefer if it's under $1300, but can squeeze a couple hundred more if really worth it.

Thanks!
