Do you use the native iPhone camera, or a third-party camera app?

Hey everyone. I’m a filmmaker/editor and a dad of young kids..and I started building an iPhone camera app because I wanted something for the moments when I care about getting a nice image, but don’t necessarily have the time or extra hands to bring a dedicated camera.

The idea is for it to sit somewhere between the native camera and something like Blackmagic Camera, BUT with more intentional control and better film emulation...and still quick enough to pull out and start shooting without much fuss.

It supports Apple Log for newer devices, but we’ve also built a separate color pipeline for standard-color footage so people without Log can still use the same film looks and get nice results.

I’m curious how useful that would actually be for people creating UGC, Reels, TikToks, YouTube content, etc.

Do you generally want more control and a more polished image from your phone, or is the native Camera app already enough? And if you’ve tried third-party camera apps before, what usually makes you stop using them?

I do have a site and a TestFlight running, but I don’t want this to just be a promotional post. I’m genuinely trying to understand whether this solves a real problem for other creators and what would make it useful in an actual content workflow. If people are interested and links are allowed, I’m happy to share it.

CDNC Camera app

I'm wrapping up a small internal TestFlight for CDNC, a new camera app I'm building. It combines dependable 4K capture, Apple Log-aware color monitoring, manual cam controls and a restrained collection of carefully developed film looks that you can refine and make adjustments to all in app.

We’re getting ready to invite our first external users and would love feedback from filmmakers who already push their phones beyond point-and-shoot. If you’re interested, you can sign up here.

www.cdnc.app

We’ll use the list to share TestFlight access and occasional development updates. Happy to answer any questions here, too.
