The Young Parent
When I was a kid teachers told me
You have an old soul.
I always took it as a compliment
That I was wise beyond my years.
I convinced myself,
I was born in the wrong generation.
Thinking,
I have a voice adults want to hear.
Until I realized I was robbed
of my innocence.
Constantly burdened by
Adults’ desires and fears.
You have an old soul.
In other words,
You’ve cosplayed a therapist
For way too many years.

The High Speed Chase
I am not as dumb as I feel.
My fear of not being good enough,
driving the wheel.
Racing in between thoughts,
their reflection in the rear.
On a wild chase,
because I won’t let them near.
Out running the law,
breaking the limit on each belief.
Putting miles in between us
to remind me,
I am not as dumb as I feel.
