WE NEED TO WAKE UP
I am a native of the beautiful village of Gwari, Paudhi Garhwal, and it breaks my heart to see the miserable condition of our state under this government.
While many natives (like me) who deeply care about the wellbeing of our bhoomi have migrated to cities in search of better job opportunities, bringing their own fair share of criticism, the current government has only made things worse.
The “explosive growth in spiritual tourism” that your government has achieved in its tenure brings more problems than solutions.
Overcrowding, garbage, and inflation in prices all are a result of your poor management. Unregulated Tourism IS the most important reason why Uttarakhand is losing its charm. In my opinion, Uttarakhand was never meant to be the hotspot for alcoholics or the unemployed, if you really consider it to be Devbhoomi then STOP monetising every aspect of our land.
I appreciate the efforts that this government has put into making the remote areas more reachable (if that was the goal), but unregulated access to areas that mean NOTHING yes NOTHING to the majority of the population visiting for a long weekend trip is only making things worse. The government needs to give us an honest number of trees that you're going to cut and the forests that you're going to ruin to build Chardham highways for a lot of brain dead people (not all) to come, make reels, smoke weed, and litter along the way.
For whom is this “development” anyway? For the tourists who’ll visit once, take selfies, eat momos and leave?
As a second generation of migrant, I deeply care for the preservation of our culture, our identity and the land of our devtas and ancestors and therefore I refuse to just sit and not do anything about it. We need to make sure that our voices are being heard.
Devbhoomi Ki Jai
