Has anyone else been crazy enough to try this?
I absolutely hated how my 240mm AIO looked mounted on the right side of my case. No matter the orientation it was in. Over time of upgrading my build this was the single thing that continued to drive me crazy. Recently, I’ve been looking at new cases for a build I’m putting together for my son, and I noticed a lot of modern chassis feature hidden radiator mounts.
In a haze of late-night excitement, I looked at my own rig and thought, “Why not?”
I stripped out the SSD mount and managed to slip my radiator right through the slot where the 24-pin power connector usually routes. I mounted the radiator where two 120mm fans normally go on the back panel, but here is the kicker: I took my 140mm fans from the top of the case and mounted them outside the back of the chassis to force fresh air directly through the radiator.
Honestly, I am stupidly surprised by how good the performance is. I’m running a Ryzen 7 7700X—which is notorious for running hot—but with this setup, my fan curve never needs to cross 55%. It is whisper-quiet, cools significantly better, and I’m kind of in love with the industrial look.
Has anyone else done an accidental "ghetto mod" that actually turned out amazing? Also, what other performance or aesthetic mods should I look into next?
