Settle it once and for all - South Tipp Vs North Tipp

They may have amalgamated the council and the car regs but we need a holds barred discussion.

Which has more going for it south or north? I’d class everything north of Thurles as being north FYI

Engaging Mortgage Broker During Probation

Is this a total waste of everyone’s time? Would like to just get everything lined up over the next few months and be ready to go once I’m safe

Interested to hear if anyone has done this recently and if they have any recommendations for a good broker in Dublin

Laptop unlocking

So I’ve left my job on good terms and my boss (not very technical has told me I can keep the laptop)

Problem being our crappy external tech guys have locked me out of logging in. I’ve no problem being removed the shared drive but I had kept some (personal but not that personal) documents on the desktop.

Is there a way I can get logged back? I’m considering taking it to the Chinese boys on Moore St but that may be a little dodgy.. any suggestions?

Job cuts and general nervousness

Find myself getting nervy which each passing week - feels like every time I open LinkedIn there are more redundancy posts and people moving on. This is across both Ireland and the UK.

We all know about the big cuts in Meta. But now in Dublin we also have Grant Thornton (80 staff) , Wix (90), ClickUp (20% of global workforce)…

I can only imagine there are firms quietly making redundancies - I have heard of a few financial services firms in Dublin doing so already.

What else are people seeing? It’d be super interesting to see a thread of various different anecdotes.

Feels like AI has given our tech overlords ample opportunity to “restructure” - only a matter of time before that spreads far and wide.

Happy Friday 😆 sorry to put a dampener on things

Adamstown - what’s it actually like?

My initial reaction to somewhere like Adamstown would be to dislike the kinda new artificial town that’s just a clump of houses..

But I’m trying to see a different point of view - maybe it’s not bad at all .. anyone live there or able to describe what it’s like?

Moving job guide

I feel like moving jobs is something that could do with a thread and that there are a few small tips and tricks that could benefit others!

There are some dark arts and some not so dark!

I’ll start

  1. Print out resignation rather than email so there is no timestamp on it - gives you scope to backdate it depending on how well you get on with HR

Any other tips and tricks such as moving files, retaining contacts etc would be useful .. pension tips also very interesting
