1933 Steinway M

I just wanted to share my rebuilt 1933 Steinway M. My sister has a similar piano but a few years younger.

A final gift from my parents from the great beyond. After my father died my piano tech came to tune my studio piano and I told him I was ready to buy a big girl piano. He had sourced this piano for another local teacher but while he searched for it she bought something else. It seemed serendipitous.

It took almost a year but she arrived with new strings, dampers, hammers, etc. original ivory keys and a glorious sound.

The first piece I played was Brahms op 117 no 1. A peaceful and beautiful welcome to her new home.

My students (and sweet dog) love it and they’ve all made incredible progress. My previous studio instrument was a 2002 Boston UP-126E and just today it went to a current student’s home.

Graduating senior gift

I have a senior graduating and I want to give her a book of Chopin Mazurkas as a gift. I cannot decide what edition to give. Ekier, Henle, Paderewski, or Alfred.

She is going to college for a Viola performance and arts admin double major but started lessons with me during Covid lockdown because she was bored. I’ve been her “accompanist” since she stated Suzuki Viola ten years ago. I’ve known her and her family for a while and I’m actually gifting her the rehearsals and her senior recital.

For our spring recital she played a Mazurka and a Piazzolla tango and she’s going to play them at her viola recital, too.
