What is your best drink to quench your thirst and provide a little boost for long rides?

I recently cycled 10 miles on the LA River Bed pathway and all I had was water. It did quench my thirst, but I'm wondering, "What do more experienced cyclists drink to quench their thirst and give them a boost of energy on long rides"?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Riding on Los Angeles River Bed

I've been cycling for about four months and rode early this morning on the streets for 10.8 miles for the fist time. I heard cycling without constant interruptions is better than stopping for traffic lights, etc. I want to ride the Los Angeles river bed this weekend (around 6 am) for the first time. I will be starting at the Del Amo Blvd entrance. Does anyone have cycling experience anywhere on the river bed? If so, what is your recommended direction (North or South), and why do you like this route better than cycling on the streets?

Strava vs Garmin

I am new to cycling and want to improve my speed and distance. Currently, I use the free subscription on Strava, but it doesn't offer cadence. I researched the Garmin 540, and it has what I need but I don't want to pay $250. What is your experience using Strava or Garmin, and which one do you prefer?

What is the primary purpose of most fundraising committees?

I have taken the position as President of our Afrakan Spiritual Center's fundraising committee and need mentorship and clear understanding. Our board states it is to raise money, but did not specify to what extent. Do most fundraising committees solicit grants and endowments for sustainability, or raise funds for small programs and projects?

How does your fundraising committee operate and what is its purpose? Your expertise will help me determine next steps. Thank you!

What is snail-mail and how does it work?

I am new to fundraising for a community outreach NPO in Los Angeles. I read some great fundraising tips on this thread, one being snail-mail. What are the pros and cons of this type of campaign strategy?

Furthermore, I like the advise for establishing meaningful relationships with potential donors, as well as asking board members for annual financial support.

With today's financial climate, how challenging is it for some of you to sustain your current donors? Have you lost donors, or receive less funding? I ask to better my efforts and prepare for the long road to securing my first donor.

I greatly appreciate your scholarship and mentorship in these challenging times.
