How can I gradually return to the psychotherapy field?
I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2022 with an MSc in Psychology of Mental Health (Conversion). Since then, I have worked in arts and cultural project, including exhibition planning, artist coordination, and commercial operations. I have long been interested in professional or research fields that connect psychology with art, but I have not yet found a clear route into this area.
My one-year master’s programme provided a theoretical foundation in mental health and psychological research, but it did not include substantial counselling-skills training, clinical placements, or supervised client work. I was particularly interested in CBT, although my knowledge of other therapeutic approaches is no longer fresh.
I am currently living outside the UK and working in another field. I am now considering how I might gradually reconnect with psychology, although I have not decided whether I ultimately want to become a counsellor or psychotherapist.
Could anyone give some suggestions that might match my current situation? Like reputable introductory counselling-skills courses, mentorship opportunities, volunteer roles, research positions, or mental health organisations through which I could gain more practical exposure? Because of my current location and work commitments, I am mainly considering part-time online programmes.
I would also appreciate suggestions about psychology-and-art-related pathways that do not necessarily involve becoming a traditional therapist.
