Modern Dhammapada Translation

I have a friend who's getting interested in Buddhism and I'd like to recommend a recent translation that uses simple English, while still staying faithful to the original texts. Any suggestions?

I found a collection of Thich Nhat Hanh's texts on Google Scholar, but none of them are sourced or dated. Are these texts actually his? Has anyone come across these quotes elsewhere ?
