So I'm back again from my hibernation to do some gyaan jhadna and respectfully, do not twist my words and try to have an open mind without resorting to assume things on your own. Since I was also engaging in hard, fast and rough...writing of my practicals, let's make this post a bit practical as well.

Objective: A rant. (Duh.)

Materials required: Attention span and basic comprehension skills.

Procedure: Typing for me, reading and understanding for y'all.

Observation:

The AI Allegations

They're hurtful and I know, I know you guys hate AI writing, but unless there's some amount of proof—screenshots, leftover prompts, or writing style changing in the book abruptly that's painfully obvious is AI—accusation is not right. I also do know that AI writing has a pattern of being monotonous that tickles your prefontal cortex, but trust me, I've seen completely human-like works being generated out of gpt's water-wasting ahh. So we really cannot distinguish between real and AI generated writing, and trust me, I'm as concerned about people not having access of water to wipe their butts and switching to toilet paper one day, but I still do not agree with AI accusations without proof.

The New member vs Old member drama

1. Many old members are not active on the sub now, so it's not very good to keep dragging them into controversial disagreements.

2. Since this thing started with posts that were meant to appreciate or talk about other sub members, I'd only like to say...no one can force favourites. This is such a baseless fight—because hear me out—people are not discriminating against new members there. They're just stating people who they're comfortable with, have made friends with, or have known for a long long time. Just because someone says I like abc does not mean they're looking down on xyz. They're not intentionally making them feel bad for being not included—they're supposed to state favourites, and people obviously know their favourites from sometime—so I would only advise people who genuinely feel hurt about it to understand where they're coming from as well, and by saying this, I do not mean we should disregard anyone's feelings (before someone comes to fight.)

3. Genuinely leaving someone out or discriminating against someone would imply people do not take their words seriously, refuse to engage in conversations or doing something that's actually making them feel like their opinions do not matter or belong. These are just a few things I'd state in everything I believe is being discriminating or leaving out among various others, so don't assume I've provided some self made testbook definition of my own to impose on everyone (since I clearly need to spell it out, again.)

Character Aesthetics

So let's pick up a topic we've (at least as much as I've observed) not talked about in posts yet. Character aesthetics.

I see some people do not find pictures from foreign creators in character aesthetics plausible, and okay, I understand your sentiments about wanting to give Indian ones the stage, I promise you, it's not about inferiority complex.

As a writer, if someone's making a mood board or aesthetics of their characters, they do not have in mind "I'll never choose Indian pictures" or "foreign ones are superior". Nope.

They only care about the picture matching their vision, and they spend a good amount of time finding their one perfect picture amongst various others—which itself is pretty self explanatory that they care about matching the picture with the vision they have in mind and not whether the pictures are Indian or European.

Hopefully, I made this point clear.

Doxxing

I think this should be pretty obvious as well, but still, I'd try portray my thoughts clearer than what our oceans would be after all the AI generated activity.

Threatening to, or actually engaging in doxxing a person—revealing their identity or personal information—should be absolutely discouraged. I need not say more, it's appalling and horrendous.

Also, resorting to personal insults and slurs, involving and dragging someone's parents is just vile. Don't stoop so low.

Holding Grudges

While I know it's only human nature to dislike people we argue or disagree with, holding grudges and showing hostility towards certain members should not be okay. Downvoting is a sign to show disagreement, yes, but not a sign to show your hostility. Downvoting a single person even in harmless comments and normal interactions is not good.

Also, I seem to see a lot of mentions about one certain user here, try not to drag their name in conversations they don't know about.

Trope Shaming

To be clear from the start, since it's practically needed to be spelled out even though I did say you need to have comprehension skills but okay—I do not support any form of rape, assault, crimes, etc.

So,

Trope shaming is jarring.

Billionaire romance? Mafia romance? Student x Professor? (yes, that too) Forced/arranged/substitute marriage?

Every one is fine.

If a trope irritates you, annoys you, or make you want to not read, it's okay.

Preferences is a legitimate term, you know?

So,

"I don't like this and that." Is totally encouraged and acceptable.

"This is trope is bad because I don't like this." Is not.

A trope may be cliché, but it's still a trope. It's not a preference, yes, but shaming it is going nowhere. We can read and write all tropes.

Also the professor x student, professor is also a profession like many others. There's a power imbalance, yes, but if it's not portraying the figure of authority abusing that power and it's all consensual, we can calm down. Anyone in our lives can potentially hurt us, but if they're not, there's no need for "but they can—".

However as I said, if they're hurting or abusing the power, then it deserves to be reprimanded.

Conclusion: Of my rant.

It randomly occurred to me—and humour me—since people using AI to write aren't actually writing themselves, shouldn't we not call them writers but rather AI users or AI prompters?

So I was looking up the Amazon Bestseller rankings for books and almost half the covers were AI generated, which is a topic of worthy discussion but not today.

The thing is, I'm planning on publishing my books on Kindle, which btw, needs impeccable formatting and covers.

But a school student doesn't really have money to spend and I can't go around asking my mother to fund my writing dream—which she knows about—because I can't practically fight with an Indian parent about why I'm writing romance (and smut).

Ofcourse, even if a quote goes 'Don't judge a book by it's cover', we most certainly, to some extent, do.

I do not know how to exactly make a cover, so that rules out, and I want the covers in a drawn format (if you get what kind I'm trying to say).

One more thing is, I want total confidentiality about my identity as a reader, and when I mean total...yes, not even 0.00000001% of information about myself leaked by the person who decides to help me with my covers.

Earlier, I had written among the likes of found family with no romance for an international audiance, on Wattpad, and now I want to dive into the world of romance—preferably spicy.

So in this case, I need two things:

1. A cover designer who can understand my vision.

2. Someone who'd hush about my identity.

And the question is, how do I find it?

My question is same as the title. I've convinced my mother to let me drop JEE for CLAT and I just want to know if it's worth it.

I'm interested in BBA LLB as a career and I want to pursue it but what are the pros and cons of it. I'm aiming for NLU Jodhpur.

I'd like to ask two questions:

1. Apart from romance and multiple siblings stories, are you guys open to read pure parent-child/found family stories?

2. If yes, what are some plots you'd like to read in this genre.

In my personal opinion, most of the books masquerading as dark romance is just plain BS that keeps on being romanticized. At some point, I have to think.

It's morally wrong and many people agree, but how far can we keep indulging in that. Sometimes I feel... there's genuinely an audiance for this stuff, some people clearly do have stockholm syndrome whatever reason—maybe they're victims of SA, maybe it just appeals them. So on, so on.

Yes, DR is infamous.

Yes, many of it is problematic.

Yes, people can take inspiration from it.

But how long should one keep getting frustrated over it?

I used to be, and still am, a person who's easily frustrated about a lot of things, and everything problematic. But it's draining. Nothing really changes, I keep getting stuck in a loop of getting concerned about problematic things, ranting about it so that some change can come, but there's another story, another plot that does the same thing over and over.

Makes me think if we should just give up and take other people's advice of letting people read what they want.

Second post of the night but I clearly only get weekends to post so bear with me. 😔

Note: This post is not intended to spread hatred against the platform, just genuine concerns.

1. Wattpad is loose with it's content. A story with minor-adult relationship/glorifying abuse keeps hoarding views while sometimes, normal books with consensual sexual relationship (or not even that) gets deleted. Either act according to your app guidelines, Wattpad, or remove them.

2. While I'm all for creative liberty and can tolerate massive age gaps, sometimes, things are a bit too over the board with romanticizing abuse and r*pe and relationships that involve minors. We know those stories.

3. What earlier used to be platform of reading and writing, has turned into something where something chaotic happens every other day. There were times when people let algorithm do the book promotion, now we spend efforts making reels, promotional posts, etc, for a book we provide for free. Again, it's my opinion, but efforts of these kinds should reap appropriate rewards.

4. If a book on Wattpad isn't getting desired engagement, the authors have the right to be upset about it. Not bitchy, but being upset is valid. If someone wrote for just themselves, we wouldn't need to post it for the world to see. They can expect votes and comments. It's feedback.

5. Creative freedom should have limitations. How problematic is too problematic until we decide this is the line? If anything, a tagging system like Ao3 would be better, at least we'd know what we're getting into before opening a book.

6. Talking about another book in some other author's comment section. I don't want to explain that one, it's not a good feeling for some authors.

7. This is actually a hot take, but many readers are in general focused being a fan than a reader. You like a particular author, love them and always follow them, but you can't bully other people for not liking them. Moreover, if your whole personality is about one single book that you read and defending it while ignoring all the red flags or problematic stuff—you're not a reader in my opinion. Just a supporter of a fandom. Moreover, most avid readers I know have favourite books, but they also have everything to talk about various other books, but some fandoms would have nothing but one book to talk about. That's just pure worship culture.

Let's discuss one of the most favourite tropes of the romance genre.

Enemies-to-Lovers

This trope is a fan favourite for many reasons but not really done right because...who would you call enemies?

Someone who hates you, wants to take revenge on you and keeps hating you for no reason?

For some reason, this trope seems to be so misunderstood.

Enemies are people who both hate eachother to their cores.

But if that hate is one sided when the other side is helpless and unable to protect themselves,

It's just feels like torture 🌽.

Hating someone is not the only requirement of the trope. Enemies are people who hate eachother mutually. If one of the leads is just enduring the other's hate and getting abused by them, it's NOT enemies to lovers.

Anyways, what are your thoughts?

I had a passing thought and something I'm keen on working in future:

What if the "dark" past of MMC is ACTUALLY dark.

What if they've done something that's not, in any case, excusable.

What if his cruelty has genuinely caused an innocent person to take their own life?

Something we've seen with highschool/college bullying romance is the FMC and MMC getting together at end, but reality is farthest away.

What if the bullying leads to a girl losing her life? Someone who everyone has cheered for as the FMC?

The common part here would be: the whole relationship was a bet.

Now normally, stories go from here to a HEA of the MCs.

But what if the girl really dies?

What do you guys think should happen?

Pressure of board exams and getting a good college is destroying me. There is never a moment I feel relaxed and endless exams and everything is frying me. I write whenever I'm stressed but this time it's making me feel more guilty and stressed. I sleep barely 3-4 hours a night and have constant headaches. Getting up feels like a big chore. In all of this, I'm not even able to study and I really want to go back to scoring like before because that's an expectation from my teachers and mum. What do I do?

I see people defending piracy by saying 'we don't have enough money but we'll support writers when we would have money' and 'books are books no matter what, it's supposed to be read in whatever way'. And numerous other excuses.

Do people realize how it hurts and disheartens authors so much? Like imagine pouring your heart and soul into a book and it just gets copied. Money you rightfully deserve? Gone. And let's not act like expecting money for your work is bad or shameful. If authors really just needed their work to be read, they'd provide it for free online. Writing professionally is not a side project, it takes time, energy, research and even money.

Imagine working tirelessly on a project in a company for months, or even years, while people consume it without you getting paid. How unfair is that?

But readers defend buying pirated books. I saw a reel of a best selling author crying cuz her books got pirated and the same readers, people who enjoy HER OWN work telling her to stop crying and doing drama? Hello? Such heartless creatures.
