How much is hardline or “on sight” still a thing?
For context, I’m a straight edge dude from the middle of nowhere. I travel for shows, but I don’t have friends in any scenes so knowing what’s going on IN THE SCENES isn’t on my radar.
Anyways, I went to Skatopia’s Bowl Bash a few weeks ago. There’s a lot of recreational drug use and I didn’t want to be bothered by people asking or peddling to me so I put some X’s on my hands.
Met this band from Georgia and they saw the X’s and asked if I was straight edge and I told them yes. They suddenly looked a little uneasy and asked if I was “on sight”. I got confused and they asked “if I smoke right now, are you going to try and fight me”. I told them no and asked why would I. They told me that the entire scene they’re in is full of “on sight” dudes who will fight you if they see you smoking or drinking.
I know that type of attitude was big in the 90s but is it still prevalent today?
