Started some Thai chilis from seed and I'm trying to diagnose and issue I'm having. I took out one of the peppers to check the roots for potential root rot. They don't feel mushy, hold together when I pull them and don't smell. They're maybe a little brown? But I think that might just be the dirt. They do reach pretty far down though, is that normal?

The leaves of my plants started turning yellow on the top, and I think that it's because of my new grow light, but wanted to rule out other things too.
