Do you think we will see 1Password adding capabilities around auto updating weak or compromised passwords like Apple iOS and Mac OS 27?

Do you think we will see 1Password adding capabilities around auto updating weak or compromised passwords like Apple iOS and Mac OS 27?

I think this is a killer feature for people who have a hard time managing and updating passwords (my parents)

Back to 1password

Good to be back to 1password. Was using proton pass (had the proton unlimited plan but cancelled) but was thinking of switching for a while now as I missed the secret key feature that protected your vault much more.

Sell me on 1P instead of Apple Passwords

Former 1P user. Switched to Apple Passwords when it came out. Thus far Apple Passwords has been better at autofill detection and also seems to pop up in a way that doesn’t interfere with other controls (sometimes 1P would cover up things or get covered up by things so I couldn’t use it for autofill).

I’m all Apple. I don’t use anything besides Apple devices and Safari for browsing so the multiplatform aspect of 1P isn’t important to me.

What does interest me, and the reason why I’m considering moving back are:

- The travel vault setup. I haven’t dug into it too much but I do travel internationally a bit and would love to prevent random governments from copying my passwords.

- Having a separate setup for my passwords that isn’t tied to my Apple account. I don’t know that it’s more or less likely for somebody to hack into my Apple account versus a 1P account, nor do I know if somebody has access to my phone and my phone password is it more or less likely that they can get my passwords out of Apple Passwords versus 1P. I’m thinking that maybe at least with 1P you have to enter your 1P password rather than just the phone PIN to access the app if biometrics fails.

I’m also curious if everybody is using 1P for MFA authenticator codes or if you’re using a separate app. Kind of the same thinking where if the MFA codes are separate then they still serve a purpose if somebody were to hack into 1P since they would also have to get into the separate authenticator app.

Anyways, just wondering if anybody has some pros and cons for these points and 1P versus Apple Passwords overall.

The new AutoFill experience on 1P nuked the Fastmail integration

Since version 8.12.10 (iOS and iPad OS), 1Password is using the native AutoFill functionality on iOS. That means that the inline extension doesn't show anymore on Safari and that it is not possible to generate a Fastmail alias with 1Password anymore.

I won't say that I switched to 1Password for this reason, but the Fastmail integration was part of the reason. I hope the devs will find a way to implement it again.

The support team told me to manually generate an alias on the Fastmail app and to copy/paste it on 1Password when creating an account, but I think part of the added value was to do it directly from 1Password.

Google Wallet & 1Password conflicts. Chrome limitations or 1Password?

Love 1Password as a password manager but I prefer Google Wallet for payments. It syncs my cards and more importantly allows me to use native virtual cards for relevant providers (Amex & Capital One). I would love to be able to continue using 1Password as my password manager but let Chrome manage payment autofill for online purchases. Is this something 1Password can allow or is the all-or-none behavior of Autofill a Chrome issue?

Accessing after death

My brother just passed away. He printed out the emergency kit but in his nature never wrote down the master password. I know this is essential to access his account. I'm now going through random scraps of paper with passwords written on them. What's 1 password policy about locking accounts after a number of random attempts? Do they put a temporary lock or is there a point where it's permanent?

Blank screen after 1Password autofill on iOS - is this a 1Password side issue?

Hey, I’m an iOS developer at Hornet. We received a user report about a blank screen appearing after using 1Password to autofill credentials on our login screen.

What we investigated:

I did a thorough investigation on our side including runtime swizzling - a technique that allows us to intercept and observe system-level screen presentations at runtime. The result confirmed that the system simply does not call our app-level functions for keyboard-related screens. This means the issue occurs at the keyboard/extension level which, as Apple has designed it, is a completely separate process that app developers have no access to whatsoever.

In the video, the user selected their 1Password credentials however instead of autofilling, a blank screen appeared. I was unable to replicate the issue on my end which leads me to believe it could be related to a slower internet connection or a timing issue on the 1Password extension side.

I also found a similar issue reported to Apple with feedback ID FB9047008 though there is no public record of it.

What 1Password support said:

We reached out to 1Password support but the response was that they are not aware of any platform-wide issue and that they can only investigate further if the affected user contacts them directly — which is not a scalable solution from a developer perspective.

Could a slower internet connection be a factor?

Has anyone encountered this? Is this a known 1Password side issue?

Thanks in advance.

Consistent issues with Prusa and TOTP from 1password

I've got a thread over in Prusa forums (https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/consistent-wrong-code-error-with-mfa-google-auth-via-1password/), and I've contacted their support to no avail. I've mentioned several times it's likely a time issue on their servers, but they don't seem interested or able to investigate.

Anyone see consistent TOTP issues with 1password and any other sites? Wondering if there's ever any other solutions we could mention to Prusa to try to fix this. =/

Update to how 1Password Families facilitates member removal

You may have seen this post last month Big change into family account management

Today, we're sharing an update to how 1Password Families works when a member is removed from an account.

When a family member is removed, their account enters a 30-day transition window. During that time, the removed member is notified by email and in-app, and is guided through a migration flow that moves their private vault data into a new, standalone 1Password account.

They won't lose access to the items that were in their private vaults.

  • What transfers over: Private vault data and their contents
  • What stays with the family account: Shared vaults and their contents

This change applies to all 1Password Families plans. If you manage a family account or are a member of one, no action is needed on your end. The flow kicks in automatically when a removal happens.

You can also find details in our support article on how to leave a Family account.

Happy to answer any questions about this! :)

This is scam right?

The thing is it's awfully close to my billing cycle and this email almost got me. Then I saw the email it came from and got suspicious. Logged into my account and everything seems fine and paid. Can you confirm if this is scam?

Also, does this mean our account information (billing schedule) is compromised?

New Phishing Attempt

A couple of weeks ago a few folks shared an email describing a login attempt from Russia - it was a phishing attempt.

This is a new attempt they're making. Just a heads up. Don't fall for this crap.

Why am i not able to pick 1password as an option on macOS? I was able to do that a few days ago. After reinstalling 1password I am now unable to do it.

A few days ago when I got a macbook, I was able to pick 1password as an option for autofill. Now I am unable to do that after I uninstalled and reinstalled the app again. But after searching, Ive come to find out that the feature never existed? Am I crazy or just completely misinformed?

Converting Individual to Family - Google Play

Trying to upgrade to Family plan from Individual. Not sure why this is so difficult. It doesn't work through Google play. Opened up ticket with 1Password for someone to reach out and assist. That was yesterday. Nothing but crickets. In this day and age to wait for someone to reach out and take over 24 hours to respond for a simple upgrade seems archaic. Any tips?

macOS AutoFill is now in public beta!

Hey everyone!

We're excited to share that native macOS AutoFill is now available in public beta for 1Password. This has been one of the most requested features for years, and we're now at a point where you can test it out and give us feedback!

macOS autofill experience in Safari

What's new in beta:

  • By adopting Apple's Passwords API, 1Password functions as a native Credential Provider on macOS for logins. You can view autofill suggestions directly within Safari and other supported desktop apps.
  • Passkey support is included in this beta as well. Fill, create and update passkeys easily through macOS autofill.
  • The 1Password Safari extension can be used alongside macOS AutoFill to access additional features not currently supported by the Passwords API.
  • Coming later in Beta, you can set up one time codes using the same integration.

How to try it:

  • Update to 1Password for macOS 8.12.22 or later from the beta channel.
  • Make sure you’re on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on Apple silicon.
  • Go to 1Password for Mac Settings > Autofill > Set up macOS AutoFill, then select "Turn On" from the macOS permission prompt. You'll see "Active" status once it's enabled.

Try filling logins and passkeys and let us know how it goes! We're happy to be one of the first credential managers to adopt these APIs and we want to get it right for you.

Drop your feedback in the comments below!

Asking for master password repeatedly, but only sometimes

Maybe this is a bug in a recent update. I am on Android, and in the last week I have had 3 instances where 1password asks me to enter my master password to unlock it two separate times in just a few hours. In all cases, the second time it asks is the next consecutive time I use it after I just entered the master password (and successfully unlocked it and had it autofill something). My phone has not rebooted nor has the app updated in between.

My Security Settings are set to require the master password every 2 weeks, and I normally just unlock 1password with biometrics throughout the day. This has been working fine for months, and still works almost all the time, but in the past 7 days it has made me enter the master password twice in one day on three separate occasions.

suggestions for standalone email address for enhanced security?

Previous posts discussing phishing and account security suggest not using your regular email address for your 1password account but instead establishing an email address solely for 1password account use at a server/service that encrypts emails. Any suggestions for best practices or where would be best?

Can't log into 1Pass desktop app on Ubunutu - Yubikey touch doesn't activate

Hello all, I'm having issues with the 1Password desktop application. It was downloaded and reinstalled today following the issues I've been having. I'm not able to log into the app to get the browser extension going. When I go through the process of signing in I'm prompted to touch my Yubikey but nothing happens when I do touch it.

What works with my Yubikey on this computer:

  • Yubikey manager
  • Firefox, Chrome, Brave
    • Can log into sites with the Yubikey in U2F mode. UV is enabled.
  • Can log into the 1Password site with the Yubikey.

What doesn't work:

  • The 1Password desktop application installed by downloaded .deb package.
  • Reinstalling the desktop application.

I'm on a fresh install of Ubuntu 26.04 and the Yubikey works with my browser, the Yubikey manager app, etc. The 1Password dekstop app seems to be the only thing that isn't working with it so far. Does anyone have any advice or some useful documentation? 1Password's site seems to be pretty light on actual technical troubleshooting documentation.

Really tried today

Downloaded and imported all my passwords today. Seemed like a great product until I tried two things.
Signing into the website required the secret code. When pasted directly from the emergency document it doesn’t work.
Also in the app when I try to update my identity address etc it will not allow me to. This the need to log into the website required
Anyone able to help or do I just go back to my old manager?
