Pedal placement

Pedal placement

Hi, I recently bought a E88 09 135i.

I've been driving manual for 20+ years, and this clutch pedal placement has been a bit different than what I'm used to. It feels a bit too close to me, and a bit lower to the floor than I'm used to. It's not a big deal, still enjoyable, but different.

Is this normal for E88's? Or did the previous owner alter the clutch pedal placement?

Suspension help! Any recommendations

I have a 2009 120i e88 and I’m looking to replace the rear shocks as the drivers side piston is exposed.

The original owner bought the m-sport package so it sits lower and rides firmer. I’m not particularly a fan of how stiff and ‘thumpy’ the rear feels and I’m worried I’ll scrape the undercarriage on bumpy back roads as I live in the British countryside, however I do love how the car sits lower.

Now I know this is a trade-off between ride height and comfort but does anybody have recommendations for replacement shocks that aren’t the expensive Bilstein B8 performance plus?

The control arms and bushings will need replacing by the next MOT so I’m thinking of doing this all in one job if the budget allows

Rotational Squeaking/Braking Sound

Hey all,

I have a 2009 128i, Coupe, Manual and I'm pretty stumped. I have a cyclic squeaking sound coming from my passenger front wheel, and I cant seem to find the cause. It mirrors wheel speed. It will make an initial sound going from forward to backwards too.

I've done all the steps I can think of to fix this, or pin point the issue. Inspected all the suspension, wheels, tires, etc.

Possibly Relevant mods; Dinan Camber Plates, Bilstein Coilovers, BBS Style 71's

Steps taken:

Removed, Cleaned and Greased Caliper and Bracket

Adjusted Dust Shield

Checked all clearances

Cleaned wheel mounting surface

Cleaned Rotor mounting surface

Bled brakes (twice)

Replaced Pads

Replaced Rotors

Swapped Pad Side to side

Replaced Hub

Replaced Caliper

I don't want to keep shot gunning parts at this, and I've tried all I can think of. Open to ideas.

Thanks

S65 1M Clone Update #6

Quick photo dump.

Took a little vacation and my brother came and knocked out the carbon roof while I was gone. Did a great job getting the old skin off. First time we got the thing off in pieces lol. Roof reinforcement welded in and roof bonded on.

I’ve been putting off getting the motor running. I wanted to finish the suspension, brakes, and get everything fitted so I can measure for a driveshaft.

Ohlins are way too expensive right now so per a buddies recommendation I bought a set of ST XTA coilovers. We’ll see how I feel about them. Thanks to wholesale discounts new F80 calipers cost about $150 more than clapped used ones. Front ones should be here tomorrow. Going to finish mounting calipers so I can finish up the brake lines.

Also decided to replace the front control arms since they looked tired. FCP is making a bag off me with this damn car.

Don’t think I’ll have much else to post until it’s time to start the car or we start doing the rear flares.

Rough flywheel pricing ?

Hi all, around 7/8 months ago I replaced the clutch in my one series. I made the mistake at the time of not buying a flywheel at the same time, i know now for next time what to do 😪🤷‍♂️. There are 2 shops I can buy a flywheel in and I have 3 options. Idk any names of brands or anything which Ik would help a lot but the prices are €565, €610, €670.

My question is would there be much of a difference in these flywheels do you all think and should I just buy the expensive one or go for the cheap one. I can get them online for about €150-200 but I don’t want to do that because it probably won’t last very long.

It has an N47 engine

Thanks

What have you done to your 1Series this week?

A post to share anything you've done to (or with!) your 1er over the last week. New parts, maintenance, detailing, road trips, track days, anything else you can think of.

^(Mod note: testing something here. We might be a bit too small to really sustain these posts weekly but figured it's worth a try. Feedback welcome via) ^(Modmail)^(.)

1M Clone Parts List

Here's a parts list for OEM 1M parts. There is some notes on some of the parts so pay attention to those. Some of the parts are now discontinued such as side markers/inner quarters. Hopefully we have Chinese knock off side markers soon.

The 1M battery tray and lines are optional if you keep your 135i exhaust. You would have to get a custom diffuser made so you don't have two cut outs.

Hope this helps someone.

Power goals/expectations

Looking for some input. Got a 135i pretty cheap and its a blast to drive. Decided to throw a bunch of money at it in hopes to make 450-500 whp. Subframe is coming off so now is the time to do any maintenance. I have the following parts on order. If im missing something let me know.

- Pure600 turbos

- 2" inlet relocation kit ARM

- Hi-flow outlets ARM

- CL DP ARM

- 7" intercooler ARM

- Upgrades IC hoses and new orings/gaskets

- Aluminum charge pipe and HKS BOV

- bilstien b14 coilovers

- NGK 97506 Colder plugs

- few other maintenance parts (oil pan gasket, motor mounts)

I still need to figure out a tune. I am thinking MHD stage 2+. Seems convenient and reliable. However is 450-500 hp possible on this tune? At what point do i reach the fuel system limits? This technically my wifes car so i am not trying to make things too complicated with e85.

Recently picked up a 2011 E88 125i, what should I know?

Hey everyone!
I recently picked up this 2011 BMW E88 125i and I'm really enjoying it so far. It has the 218hp 3.0 N52, the automatic Steptronic transmission and around 87,000 km (54k miles). The previous owner was an older guy who wanted to sell the car because he said he wasn't really driving it like it's meant to be driven anymore xd.

I paid around €18,300 (Just for context, these are Austrian prices, so these aren't necessarily comparable to US prices) for the car and have put roughly another €3,000 into it for things that needed sorting out.

I like to do trivial stuff on cars on my own, but for preserving value and having bills to back up what was done, I managed to find a BMW specialized workshop in my area. The things that were done are: New 5W40 engine oil + filter, a full transmission flush because the Steptronic was shifting kinda sluggish, new brake fluid, the rear differential has also been rebuilt because the bearings were making a grinding noise, and a scratch in the front bumper was repaired.

I also did some smaller things myself like replacing the door seals because they were worn, detailing the entire interior and other small stuff.

The car is stock and everything is OEM at the moment, and I'd definitely like to keep it that way and preserve it the best I can.

I'm not new to owning BMWs, but relatively new to owning an E8x, so I'd love to hear from people who have owned this model for a while. What are the main things I should keep an eye on with the N52 and the E88 in general? I know about the electric water pump failing, but is there anything you would recommend replacing or checking proactively at this mileage, and are there any common convertible-specific issues I should know about?

I'm also curious about any useful coding features, hidden tricks or little things about this generation/model that aren't immediately obvious.

I'd really appreciate any advice, tips or things to look out for. Feel free to tell me if I'm doing anything wrong or things you wish you had known before I inevitably find out the hard way haha.

(Also sorry that I don't have any better pics of the interior but it doesn't have the iDrive if thats relevant, feel free to ask me anything too!)

1M time has come!

As the title suggests, my US slicktop 1 series is garaged for the season, and is about to (hopefully) become a 1m clone by spring. Only issue is finding everything. So I’m reaching out to hopefully get some helpful links and/or resources. At this point in time, I’ve got the weld in rear flares from Ex-pressed in the UK, but that’s really about it. I’m having trouble finding bumpers and skirts as everything is 1M “style” and not actually 1M spec when it comes to width. Not looking to spend 20k on OEM stuff, but am willing to put money into quality parts. TIA for the help!

Edit: Found the parts kit on ECS for about 6,500 for all OEM bits and pieces. Would still like to know if cheaper options though!

I’ve never really wanted to replace this car with something bigger. I just needed a better way to use the space I already have. The roof box changed everything — now we can pack for a family trip without turning the cabin into a game of Tetris. One more reason to keep the E87. ❤️

Do E9x strut tower braces work on E88s?

Just wondering because I don't see a reason they wouldn't.

If I look at some braces like the Racing Dynamics one on ECS, it says it fits E9x, E82, E88. But some braces don't list that they fit E82 and E88, like the ECS-branded one. (And honestly they look more or less identical, at least dimensionally.)

Is there any clearance issue or anything like that which would make an E9x strut tower brace NOT work on an E88?

radiator... struts?

I have no idea what these things are called, but I'm talking about the little diagonal struts in front of the radiator peeking out from the kidney grille. No luck finding them in the parts catalog either.

The ones on my car have become quite rusty over the years and I'm considering doing something about it.

How much of a hassle is it getting these freed up enough to give them a rattle can paint job? Are we talking full bumper off here or can I get at them some other way?

Got a pre LCI 5-door F20 btw. Picture is just for illustrative purposes.

Apex Arc 8 17x8.5 Fitment Help

Hi I’m looking to get the 17x8.5 Apex Arc 8 wheels for my 128i and need advice on tire setup.

Car is on stock non m sport suspension and I want to avoid rubbing. Was told 235/40-17 would be ideal. What setups are you guys running?

Currently on stock wheels looking to get a wider wheel and more performance focused tire. Weight savings is a nice bonus as well :D

Swap or start over?

I bought this car when I was 19 I bought it because it was stick and I wanted to learn manual, later to fine out it was the base model so I decided to go stance car with it (low and slow) but now that I’m in my 30s I want something I can enjoy on the weekends. Is it better to swap to and n54 or sell it and start over? Also I’m having a hard time finding a 135i manual for sell
