Just wanna brag :)
Bought this beauty on an auction for $100, box controller from the same guy for $20. It does not read the discs, but I think it was a steal anyway :) ODE already ordered, can't wait to play Road Rash and Battle Blues :D

Usual story with an FZ-1, but I just wanted to check if anyone more experienced had any other ideas as to what the problem might be before I write the laser off as dead and say it's ODE time.
Things I've checked:
On boot, the laser starts moving backwards from the centre spindle in three movements, the laser moving up and down trying to focus all the way. It gets to around the middle portion of the rails and gives up, and the 'insert disc' screen appears. At no point does the spindle motor actually rotate.
When an audio CD is inserted, the behaviour is identical.
Replacement lasers are around the same price as an ODE from AliExpress, so if the laser really is dead, I'm not getting another.
Found a 3DO (in box) on a japanese site. It is gonna be a few weeks before it gets here. But I am totally new to the 3DO. My other consoles I've either got Everdrives for them - if cartridge, or ODE's if they have drives. But I try to get an ODE that preserves the drive so I can play from disks if/when I find ones I'd like. So I need some advice about what I'd like to get and/or do with it.
It is a japanese version of the FZ-1 with controller. Still in box and seller says it powers on and drive works but that's all. For the price I was okay with that much info. Here's my questions:
What is the recommended ODE for this system that allows me to still use the CD-ROM drive?
Do I send out for recapping/upgrades regardless? What are some recommended upgrades if I do? I cannot solder. So would need to go out for it all.
I've looked and people don't seem to have issues with running the 100v version on American systems, but longer term will this cause any problems and I should either have it adjusted or get a step down?
Looks like I can get a composite to HDMI video output or an S-Video to HDMI for it. What's recommendation? It will go into a 40 inch widescreen TV (no, I shall neither get a CRT nor change aspect ratio to 4:3. I am against both. Don't ask. Memories). This system has both the mode a/mode b switch on the back.
Anything else I need to know or get for this while I wait for it to arrive?
Thanks!
Would it be theoretically feasible to make a I’ll be heavily butchered version of the original 5 nights at Freddy’s games?
