I’m looking at getting some H&R Cold War infantry for various countries on either side of the iron curtain.
(Full disclosure, I’ve never painted 6mm before)
I want to field the Soviet Union and East Germany as two separate factions. Aside from helmet shape, both forces have very similar uniform and equipment.
As an easy distinction I was thinking of painting the Soviets with the orange Bakelite magazines and the E-Germans with the stamped metal magazines.
Question: Do I paint the rifles (aside from any wood) all black, all grey, or would a dark gunmetal metallic give the typical ‘weathered’ AK look.
Alternatively, am I overthinking something that will be an insignificant detail on the 6mm scale?
Thank you for any advice and recommendations.
I finished some fast air support for my West & East Germans. F-4F Phantoms and Tornado IDS for the Luftwaffe and MiG-21s for the LSK.
I finished a bunch of new stuff for my Cold War Setting. The tank crews will be used as bailed out markers for Team Yankee. The Soviet crews will be next and some cobras once I‘m happy with the prints.
My first 6mm infantry, also ive never really done basing before. Work in progress.
im happy with most except for the guard (2 units on right in first picture). they kinda vanish against the base.
How would you improve contrast / visibility if i dont wanna paint them all colorfull like the rest?
I'm part of a group that plays Team Yankee in 6mm scale and we try to get in a game at least once a month, and sometimes we both succeed in playing and also get a BatRep typed up, with words and pictures and everything! Here is our BatRep from our game last month. Enjoy!
