Six of the best needs a shake up

I love Madonna, Aphex Twin and Pet Shop Boys but I feel that six of the best needs a broader brief to really get our teeth into.

The best six of the bests are always deep dives, or that one time that they were vegetable related.

Why can’t I play these?

Hey 6fam

Why are they playing my girl while I’m asleep then dangling them greyed out. How do I listen? Is there a way?

Farage Broadcasting Corporation

listening to 6 Music this morning to hear every news bulletin that 'R*form are proposing to overhaul welfare and abolish PIP'

why is this information constantly getting airtime? A small popinjay party populated with cranks shouldn't be setting any news agenda, classic establishment properganda innit, thin skinned vain F*rage and his bullshit getting pushed in everyone's face again

however I am greatly enjoying Gideon on a Sunday morning on 6 so will perceive

Praising 6 Music for playing very long songs in full.

I come to some of the past shows on BBC Sounds, and shocked to see how they can play 5-6 minute long songs with no cut short.

Meanwhile on Radio 1, their supposedly main station i guess, they are slowly rolling out "only 2 choruses" edits to more and more current songs, on their regular, non-anthems programming. And when this happens, you never hear it in full unless on rare occasions.

Where's My Phone? by Mitski loses half of the epic "ha ha ha" instrumental after verse 2 on R1, but in R6 they kept it in full. Only 15 seconds lost, so nice R6M actually bothered to keep it in! Yet to test with more songs but doubt its much of an issue.

Now UK needs to legalise swear words, like almost the entire world does.

Jarvis is enjoying himself today

Classic radio. It’s like getting an ‘All back to mine’ invite on a hot Sunday afternoon.

He’s on top form, I’ll listen to this again.

Me again 😀 Ok yes I’m high🍄‍🟫 but I have a question about Gilles…

WTF?! How did he know?! 🍄‍🟫😀. But that has to be (despite my high biased) the most incredible opening ever. His narrative, as ever is superlative

Was Afrodeutsche's show a pre-record today?

Just before 7.45am Afrodeutsche read out messages from people off to Spain to watch the solar eclipse. Might be my tired brain but that already happened right? Made me wonder if this was pre-recorded show as seems a bit of a strange error to make.

Lauren Laverne is absolutely killing it with the track selection today.

Always love the Rave Forever shows but this is an unbelievable run of quality tracks. Would urge anyone to listen back on BBC Sounds.

Sorry, but the furthest I’ve got on BbC Sounds is about 3.20 pm. Because….

I’m stuck in a loop! 🙈🍄‍🟫 but what a loop to get stuck in because I keep getting to 3.20 and…. Back to the start again 🙈😁 Gilles is quite magnificent. ✊

Deed edit. It’s 5.17
By the way, just wanted to clarify for those not observing .

Indie cloudbusters

About to head out for a run to keep my self loathing at bay for another day. I think, why not, let’s give the new indie channel a go. First track up is The Kooks?! Immediate swap to the start of Chris Hawkins who opens with mbv and Only Shallow. Phew.

Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

What songs are starting to sound old for you?

I often wonder when previously modern music will start to sound old.

Love Buzz was played today, and I love Nirvana (I'm an 80s kid) but it has been 37 years since that was released.

To put it in context, between Love Buzz, and Leadbelly's Where did you sleep last night was 45 years. Nirvana famously covered this in 1993.

Are bands like Nirvana starting to sound aged? What bands that 6music regularly plays do you now hear and think, okay yeah, this is starting to sound like oldies music?
