Atlantic label comps, Los Babys, Bad Co., another Alamac jazz boot, Beach Boys, Beacon Street Union, some obscure UK band plus William Bell on Stax & Lola Beltran!!!
There was a player as well but it didn't seem to turn on when I plugged it in so I left it.
I'm pretty new to all this. Does anyone buy tapes and then just play them without installing a new pad and a new splice? Taking the approach of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - that If the tape plays fine leave it alone; but if the tape comes apart at the splice then re-splice it?
My dad gave me these and thinks they may have been my mom's. There's some great stuff in there. I was super excited about the Beatles, but that one is unfortunately broken. I don't know if these be spliced like cassette tapes, but I'd love to fix it. Then all I need to do is source a player.
Favorites in this tote are Master Of Reality (with the split up Into The Void), Lord Buckley, Tim Buckley & Maria Callas.
James Brown's Live at the Garden is freaking AMAZING, but the cart is in bad shape, the original foil splice was in the wrong spot (in the middle of the program) due to a manufacturing defect, and the overdubbed fake crowd noise is layered over the music, so it's a tough listen.
The Gary Burton ECM is the newest one. I unsealed it & replaced the pad, so that one sounds great! The original splice is still nice and strong. That's one dirty little secret of 8 track collecting: not every single splice needs to be cut out and replaced!
Some time ago I made a few things for the 8-track music format. If you are interested, you can download it at Thingiverse for free.

Just wanna show my playground, don't ask but I like tapes and 8-tracks...
Found this on Craigslist for $75 today! I was surprised it was still available, since it had been up for 3 weeks. It seems like it's in pretty good shape, even the level meters are working.
Now, I need to get my hands on a restored tape, to see how well it's really working. After that, I've got a bunch of tapes in questionable condition that I picked up for free with this one, as well as with my other deck, that I can use to practice restoring myself.
First time poster! I'm a big fan of 8-track tapes and have been actively buying and listening for 18 years. Here is a small sample of my collection, I will post more as I organize my carts into new shelving.
I'm new to 8 tracks considering I'm younger than the usual audience. It wasn't working right originally so I replaced the belt and re-capped the board. It plays amazingly now!
Pure heavy metal like Priest and mid 80’s record club-only releases are definitely not ones you see out in the wild as much. New pads incoming on these!
