The main options I see are MailerLite, Brevo, EmailOctopus, and Sequenzy.

(Leaving Mailchimp off on purpose - the free plan has been cut down so much over the years that it's hard to recommend anymore.)

They each approach free plans differently:

- MailerLite: Generous free plan with automations included

- Brevo: Daily send limit, but unlimited contacts

- EmailOctopus: Simple and cheap, free tier is decent for small lists

- Sequenzy: Unlimited contacts free, you only pay per email when you actually send

What does your business use, and did the free plan hold up as you grew?

Mine would be cleaning and segmenting subscriber lists.

Not writing emails - the endless work of updating tags, removing inactive contacts, checking exclusions, and preventing overlapping campaigns.

What would you automate forever?

• Deliverability monitoring
• List cleaning

The obvious signs for me are:

- Generic opening lines

- Too many perfectly structured bullet points

- Forced enthusiasm

- Repeating the same idea in different words

- Vague benefits without specific examples

- Phrases like “in today’s fast-paced world”

But well-edited AI copy is much harder to spot.

Can you usually tell when a marketing email was written by AI? What gives it away?
